Disdain/Anger for Young Women on DCUM

I notice A LOT of ageism on this site, again and again.

The 20 somethings who have it together most likely aren’t posting here. Unlike the 24 yr old trustafarian who needs a break from working and can’t get a date on the Relationship forum. The supposed 20yr olds have the dumbest problems.

That was beyond bizarre. I’m way shocked an “almost 24” year trust fund bag chose to post here (a site geared to older adults) versus say, Reddit

To be fair, every age group is attacked.

Anonymous wrote:Of course. DCUM started decades ago for the parents of young children, including the founders. Now these parents are in their 40s and 50s. I have seen, during those years, how the previous hate for older people has changed to hate for younger people In recent years, Jeff started the Perimenopause and Eldercare spaces, which gives you an idea of DCUM demographics.

But to be clear - this is an anonymous forum where people post their innermost prejudices and reflexive, knee-jerk opinions. Someone is always going to be hated!

I would think the original DCUM readers (The site started in 2001) are much older than their 40s...the original readers tended to be older parents of little kids in places like NW DC, so they were usually already in their 30s and 40s when they started posting.

Dcum hates everyone.

I think it's much meaner toward elderly women, especially boomer mother-in-laws.

I don’t think I have see any posts like that. Can you link to a few that show what you mean?

The only groups pretty much always blamed are men, mother in laws and step mothers.

They didn't. That was absolutely not a real person -- that was a troll.

Do you care to post examples of these specific threads?

I can't say I have seen what you're seeing.
I do see comments that call out toxic attitudes that serve no positive purpose long term and that's a good thing many of these social media buzzwords aren't really helpful in relationship context.

I do see a lot of ageist and misogynistic posts on here and I do feel those are mostly by trolls there's far too much troll activity here it's skyrocketed in the last 2 years.

The nastiest posts seem to be written *by* a younger poster towards older women - calling someone “grandma,” etc.

Functional, educated 22 year olds with jobs or school to worry about aren't posting on a mommy message board at all. And generally the parents with functional 22 year olds aren't going to be asking for advice on how to deal with them.

Either way people aren’t going to be kind to morons or trolls.

I haven’t noticed that at all.
