That is grotesque overpay for a 4 year degree job. We are supposed to now compensate nurses more than many family docs? Talk about wage inflation spiral. If nurses make $275k I guess we have to pay teachers $200k and docs $1M now.

USA wages and cost of labor are out of control.

What are your sources for these salaries and what types of roles?

AVERAGE is already $165k. Union is making demands that would push it to $275k.

Ridiculous over compensation. Fire all union nursing and replace.

CRNAs there are making $205/hr per diem or 300-350k salary. That’s more than some physicians make. That’s an amazing value for a masters degree

CRNAs are not nurses per se, they are not even members of the nursing dept of the hospital whatsoever (nor are nurse practitioners). Totally different pay.

They are nurses with a special type of masters degree and certification. It’s still a 2 yr masters degree program- and amazing pay with the ability to pretty much be hired anywhere in the US you want to work. Not really what the strike is about, but just putting it out there since I was looking at job openings for nurses and didn’t realize quite how much they are able to make

Only in America would people complain that some people were getting paid too much, especially in an important and demanding job.

Jesus, I know people that make BANK in SALES. Some in real estate. How on earth are those folks making over $100k even?

Even so, I don’t complain. I could easily sell, I’m not sure I could handle a lot of nursing jobs.

I am a hospital nurse, have worked as a med surg RN manager (for a hospital with a nurses union) and stand by what I said. They are not employed in the hospital nursing dept or budget. They are essentially treated the same as doctors or physicians assistants (APPs - advanced practice practitioners).

They are likely not a part of the nursing union or strike. It confuses people as they start out as nurses or have it in their title, but that's it.

They need to focus on staffing numbers, not compensation. They are being payed well. However, staffing is a huge problem that puts nurses in a dangerous position. No salary raise can somehow make you take care of more patients safely. You can physically only do so much safely- there is a limit. And nurses find themselves in a position where they are assigned too many patients to care for safely, if they make an error or miss something due to not physically being able to tend to it, they can lose their license. That is very unfair to do- to nurses and patients

I know, just surprised how much they make

Totally support nurses striking! And teachers too (from comment above). These are traditionally female jobs that are undervalued in our society.

Why is it ok for only CEOs to demand high salaries?! Power to the workers! ✊🏼

You know what's out of control OP? CEO wages. CEO greed.

This. I promise the nursing staff is making more difference to the quality of care you or your family member is getting than the Billionaire that owns the hospital.

You’re right it’s outrageous. The CEOs of the hospitals increased their compensation by over 54% in three years and didn’t treat a single patient, and have the nerve to try to cut health benefits for nurses and begrudge them pay.

Why don’t you go be a nurse if it’s such a cushy job?

“A labor socialist country”?
Labor unions and the right to strike for better working conditions have been part of the United States for more than a century. Who is “we”?

You are such a corporate shill! Ewwww. Stick up for those rich CEOs and billionaires who do not care one bit about you. You are just a widget to them. Remember when workers got a gold watch for being loyal employees? Nowadays you get a slice of pizza, why they make bank. They’ve turned our country into a dog eat dog society.
