| They should give you a refund for that day. |
4-5 hours? Yeah, right! |
| Was there no mention of this in the reviews? |
It would take my house hours to get up to 65 from 45 |
Absolutely. It was 5 degrees out. It takes hours to heat a home including walls and furniture when it’s been 45 inside |
|
AirBNB owner with a Nest it takes my house 2+ hours to heat from 55 to 70 with 4 HVAC units so 3-5 from 45 sounds about right.
I always turn on the heat in the AM before people arrive. As for compensation, I doubt you'll receive anything. Just review appropriately. |
| Sometimes these hosts aren't reasonable. I once stayed with a group in a 4-bedroom house with a tiny little washer/dryer and they expected us to wash all the sheets and towels before our morning checkout. |
| Go to a hotel. Lesson learned. |

Yes, I would request 1/4 day refund as pro rated to the time it was no habitable. Leave a review and state your experience in the comments.
What was the Airbnb’s rating and how many reviews did it have? My personal policy is I never stay in an Airbnb unless it has dozens of reviews (more than 50) and all positive. |
This is the norm in Europe. |
| Stay at hotels. |
Conserving energy when not in use is fine. But when op checks in, the property is now in use and therefore should be ready to go. That means the heat should have been turned on in advance. If an owner is too cheap for that then they should be in a business other than hospitality. OP did not get what she paid for and it entitled to be pissed. I’m just wondering why you would roll over for an Airbnb host to save $5 |
This. It’s not energy efficient. |
Most places in Europe are small and not freestanding homes. |
