This forum needs to be renamed to the GLP-1 forum

It will be a case of fafo. I am happy for these people, if they are happy. I am on a regimen to lose 20 pounds and I never considered using these drugs. I suspect we will find out in 5 or so more years the true effects of these dugs on the digestive system. I'm thinking cancer will abound in this population: normal weight or barely overweight people with no comorbidities.

…says anonymous Dr. I.M. Ignorant on the Internet.

We all know that digestion and elimination are required for a healthy gut. You can't have waste sitting in your intestines for 1-2 weeks plus and not have problems. The time from consuming food to eliminating the waste from your body via bowel movement should take 24 to 72 hours. Glp 1's slow down digestion and elimination. Gastroparesis is a side effect of the drugs, as well. Use your logic or remain, as you are currently, full of s h i t.

Some don’t get any side effects, or very little side effects.

I think the animosity comes from those who can’t afford it, and feel frustrated they can’t get it.
Next year, Canada will be able to sell a generic. Then it will be affordable.

It’d be fine with me. I am passionate about my GLP-1 which has changed my life for the better.

You realize these drugs have been in use since the early 2000s?

For a different patient population than the one getting them off label now.

Difference is they haven’t been used by the masses, only those with diabetes. I still think the evidence of risks is very low compared to the benefits at this point.

Disagree. There will be other medications coming down the pike, not just GLP-1. This forum was already split off fitness and that one barely has any traffic now.

It is truly on label now that these are approved indications.

Well from a statistical analysis perspective it was certainly being used by “the masses” or a very large patient population. It’s not like it was being used in a small set of patients with a rare condition.

5-10 years. 5 years for the word to start speading: it was early to mid 90's, so news took longer to spread than it does today. Phen fen was pulled in the late 90's after it was linked to serious and sometimes fatal heart and lung issues. My cousin had 3 heart attacks while on it. She was late 30's at the time.

So we are well outside that window of time now. We would expect any major unknown side effects to be reported by now.

FFS, you already got weight loss separated from the Health forum and then got a separate Exercise forum spun off for non-weight loss exercise.

Maybe instead of asking for more changes you could meditate on the concept of shared spaces. Try, "Not everything in a forum is for me and that's ok."

Ok let’s give it 20 years.

I’d love to see the overlap of folks who think the long term risks of GLP1s are overplayed and those who now think statins should be avoided because we’ve now seen longer term negative effects ts.

Then when a poster asks for diet advice please STFU about GLP1s, ok?
