People who lie about service animals

Anonymous
This is why socialism, communism and progressivism are always failures. They are too low IQ to account for human ability and nature to bend, expand and redefine rules into a sloppy, slovenly and somewhat smelly affair. Support animal meant a dog with a handle for a blind person. Now you're in an airplane seated next to a coyote. Only stupid people with the wisdom of a fruitfly push for those regressive and misery inducing philosophies.

Exactly. Watched this play out at our hotel last summer while on vacation with a couple and their dog--barking, chasing squirrels in the courtyard, eating table scraps, etc.

Catch up to the woman and her dog and it is taking a huge dump in the airport. How can that be a service dog? My so not service, poorly behaved rescue dog would NEVER sh*t inside.

How long of a flight? Even service dogs need to poo, PP. I've fostered dozens of dogs in my life, and service or no service, when you have to go, you have to go. Airports usually have potty spots for dogs, but they're few and far between and can take a really long time to walk to! A decent human would come prepared to clean up after their dog, with poo bags, disinfecting wipes and paper towels. Similar concept to diaper bags, really I travel with a "dog bag".

Me again. I disapprove of liars who pretend their dogs are service dogs, of course. The staff can always ask to see the certificate.

There's not really such a thing as "the certificate" and its illegal to ask for something like that.

PP you replied to. Really? Wow, there should be some national certification issued that one can ask/show to reduce fakers.

Half of the problem is there is no such thing as "the certificate."

There's no such thing as a certificate for service dogs. All someone can do is ask if the dog is trained to perform assistance (I don't remember the exact wording).
That's why it's such a minefield to deal with for businesses.

And this is what we need to change to stop people from lying about their pets being service animals. Service animals need to be licensed/registered, and the process should require both a prescription from a licensed medical/mental health professional and some type of certification from a service animal trainer or testing program that the animal in question is capable of both meeting the specific patient needs AND being in public without being a menace.

There is a whole cottage industry now of people with pseudo-service dogs obtaining social media fame (and fortune) by creating content about their dogs.

There is no real certificate.

FFS whose dog isn’t an emotional support animal? I mean isn’t that the reason people get dogs (unless they’re working dogs like on farms)???

But then when they change the rules, people will make a HUGE stink...sort of like when Disney changed their accessibility rules. People abuse it and then it changes and then people get mad.

You are potentially violating HIPAA. That certificate could tell you what disability the person had. https://www.hipaajournal.com/does-hipaa-apply-to-animals/

What are you talking about??? HIPAA prohibits health care employees from revealing people’s private health information. Nothing to do with restaurants or other businesses

Shame them.

Seriously. Loudly tell them "I and everyone else in here knows that your dog is not a real service animal." and walk away. It is very effective. I've done this several times in restaurants. I also tell the manager that the reason why I'm leaving is because there is a non-service animal in there and I understand that their hands are tied. Because that is also true. Their hands are tied. My brother is a restaurant manger and fake service animals are a big problem for all restaurants. There is little they can do.

All they can ask is 1. is this dog a service animal required due to a disability? and 2. what task is it trained to perform? And people can lie and there's nothing else they can do. The restaurants can't do anything unless the dog starts causing a disruption because yes, restaurants and stores can ask service animals to leave who are being disruptive.

People SUCK. How about they also stop parking in handicapped parking WHEN THEY DO NOT HAVE PLACARDS OR TAGS and then I can’t find one for my disabled kid when we’re out.

You are an unhinged moron.

This has nothing to do with politics, least of all communism or socialism FFS.

And I don't like dogs being everywhere and people faking that they are service animals.
