I don’t take medication to fly but I have flown LAX-SYD many times. It’s a tough flight and a tough time zone transition. Personally I do everything I can to be ready to start the day as though it’s 6 am (usual landing time) and power through. With that, I’d consider whether benzos make it more or less likely you can do that. And then go from there. |
Omg. Or rather don’t so that to your seat mate. |
Take a couple of Ambien and sleep. |
Just make sure you get a window seat so no one has to climb over you. |
Why not zzquil? It’s not gojng to knock you out for 15 hours but will help you sleep 6-8. If melatonin and a glass of red wine doesn’t work for you, that’s what I’d do. And compression socks.
On the DVT thing….dont most people stay seated for 6-8 hours on a red eye? I know I’m not getting up and walking around. |
Lie flat seat, Triazolam. Otherwise I cannot sleep. I wake up to go to the bathroom a couple of times. Maybe sleep 5 hours including that. |
I didn’t know you could read OP’s mind. ![]() |
Are you in economy??? Just flew to Asia business class lie flat and honestly it was totally fine! Watched movies, ate food, slept, read a book and then we landed. The only time I’d dread that type of flight is if I was stuck in economy class. |
I think it really depends on how much do you want to feel like shit for the rest of your trip? Benzos tend to have a pretty long half life. You can't just turn them off when you land in Sydney. If it's a long leisurely vacation, sure. I would take a pill or a couple of drinks if I knew I could I sleep it off. But by doing that you're turning a 15.5 hour flight into a 72 hour event. And it would need to be a very leisurely trip for me to give up 2 or 3 days of recovery for the little buzz of benzos or alcohol on a long flight. My preference is to be in the time zone and feeling good as quickly as possible - and benzos and alcohol on long flights are delaying that for days. |
On foreign flights longer than 5 hrs I take 2 mg diazapam. |
Well from now on you're standing up and walking around every 2-3 hours, PP. Anyone can suffer from a lethal DVT. |
If you are seated you need to be moving your feet regularly. I write the alphabet with my toes. You should do this and/or get up every 3ish hours. |
You must be extremely sensitive to drugs and alcohol. Two drinks? That’s out of my system in no time. |
This is a very strange post. You have no authority over or knowledge of what anyone else is doing. |
Obviously. It's a style of writing to let you know that this is deadly serious. Some of us know better than you. But if you want, you can double check with your doctor. |
