Run far far away

Amplify was originally owned by NewsCorp/Rupert Murdoch. So many alarm bells going off.

Op- I think an easy action item would be to write to the chancellor, council and mayor to release boy and moy map scores by school. They have the data, but they won’t share it with teachers this year. They should have the end of year scores by mid June.

A couple Post reporters have been notified but I have no idea if they will pursue this. I also heard that concealing test data is actually illegal for the school district.

Violation of DC Code § 38–1853.08, among other laws.

Wapo, where are you?

They announced this week that they’re getting rid of MAP science for next year so there will not be any objective measure that shows how little kids learn with Amplify until 8th grade CAPE at which point they’ll be done with middle school. Please email the chancellor and the mayor’s office. MAP Science is a decent test. Amplify is the worst program I’ve seen in two decades of teaching, and headquarters keeps ramping it up rather than cutting it.

What do you mean? The citywide results? If you are a science teacher (which is the only person who would know that they aren't "released") you can go into NWEA and see the citywide averages yourself. Why do YOU need to know how each individual school did? Also, if you do need to know this, you can just ask other teachers at other schools how their students did. If everyone hates Amplify, as you say, I am sure people will be willing to share their students' MAP test results.

MAP Science is actually NOT that great and it is nothing like the DC CAPE science test that is far too long. It also asks students to do more than on the ELA/Math test with far less time, over far more information. In 8th grade, they are supposed to take it for all 3 years of science that they learn.

I am not a teacher but transparency is important. Why hide each schools results for? The only reason I can think is that they are so bad, that is why. And no, teachers are not going to know teachers at every school to know other schools results.

But even more important is that parents and families also should have that information, and it be transparent. DCPS is sh’tshow and this further erodes familie’s confidence in the system with all the opaque issues going on already such as selective HS admissions and now this.

Also as a parent, IMO MAP is a hell of a lot better than CAPE. Not only do you get the results quickly, but it is also adaptive so it can see how much your kid actually knows and gives them harder questions if they get the current one right.

People like you are the problem, not OP, as to why DCPS is not forced to do better to educate their kids.

Are any of the MAP results publicly reported? MAP ELA, MAP Math or MAP Science? I've never seen these publicly reported. MAP is used by a lot of schools to support instruction and instructional planning. Are there any states that are publicly reporting MAP? Even the link to the law posted earlier is about CAPE/PARCC not MAP.

Or is the issue that parents aren't receiving their kids results?

We are at an immersion charter and get all MAP scores for ELA and math every time the kids take it. They don’t take MAP science.

It’s super helpful to know your kids score and many states use it so you also see your child’s percentages among users nationwide which I find even more useful.

When my kids were in DCPS - the only time I got MAP scores was when I specifically asked for them.

Let's be clear, YOU know nothing about me as a (former) science teacher. I shared my MAP scores with famlies (in both my advisory) and my course every time we took it. However, I am not the problem. I was simply asking questions as I still teach but have moved to a different subject that does not have a "MAP" test to take. MAP is supposed to inform how students will do on DC CAPE for science, but it is a very different test. I work very hard to be an amazing teacher for my students and have continuously gone back to school (and learned on my own) to do right by all of the students who are in front of me each day.

I was simply asking some clarifying questions of the OP. They don't give out the ANET scores or MAP scores for any other discipline either.

FOIA it. You don't have to be a reporter.

The real issue is that Amplify is a very bad curriculum that was instated by central office without the approval of teachers, and teachers are telling us the students aren't learning. The MAP discussion is because the one measure that would reflect learning in science is now not being shared.

Individual MAP scores can be downloaded directly from the platform. MAP average growth by school was reported. Check with your admin/TLI or Central office.

Incorrect- I tried both.
