MAP Science results being hidden

Anonymous
Downtown won’t release the mid year MAP science results. My guess is that they don’t want to show how disastrous Amplify Science is. They announced this week that they’re getting rid of MAP science for next year so there will not be any objective measure that shows how little kids learn with Amplify until 8th grade CAPE at which point they’ll be done with middle school. Please email the chancellor and the mayor’s office. MAP Science is a decent test. Amplify is the worst program I’ve seen in two decades of teaching, and headquarters keeps ramping it up rather than cutting it.

This is outrageous.

I'm a reporter, and I'm interested in bringing this story into the light.

As a parent, please do! We have to shed a huge light on the abysmal science education in the district.

Honestly this feels like a scandal. Looks like Amplify is "selling itself" to lots of school districts and many teachers are saying the same thing.

How does the money flow here? I know DCPS has to pay for educational apps.

Everyone needs to read this and start asking big questions in central office.

"The grant came after an anonymous benefactor donated money to Amplify earmarked for Seattle Public Schools, said district spokesman Tim Robinson by email. He said the mystery donation paid for Amplify Science for 20 schools. “Our understanding was it was $100,000,” Robinson said.

Wow! This is terrible. No confidence in DCPS in general but now eliminating any objective testing to assess knowledge base. That is a big red flag.

The most telling thing to me was that when we had an all city 6th and 7th grade science meeting, only one person from downtown came…and she hid in the hall rather than face us.

Don’t forget that OSSE wants to reduce high school graduation requirements for science from 4 years to 3 years.

In the article, they said that Seattle schools received a mystery grant/bribe that was contingent on using Amplify, so they managed to push it through without getting the typical board approval.

Knowing DCPS, I would not at all be surprised if the same thing happened, that person from downtown knew, and couldn't face teachers as a result.

Shameful. This feels like such a scandal to me.

Teachers, please share this with other science teachers!

Wow!

We're at a charter school but because of this thread I realized I never got CAPE science results from last year got either of my kids

Thanks for posting links. My school is considering new science programs and Amplify is on the list.

Amplify was originally owned by NewsCorp/Rupert Murdoch. So many alarm bells going off.
