Why are so many convinced that authoritarianism is "freedom"?

It's kind of like inventors that work at corporations. Inventors believe very strongly in creativity, but in practice perform very little if any individual creativity. However, often times new large-scale inventions lead to new individual opportunities for creativity. Invent a computer, that can then be used as a basis for many smaller scale inventions. I think that is how they go about rationalizing the process. I think a similar thing goes on mentally in those who support liberty in high level positions. Say in fighting oppression by giving up one's individuality it will then lead to greater individual freedoms. Kind of like the Union soldiers (Republicans ) fighting to stop slavery (Democrats ).

Just a hypothesis.

+1 Who knew that “don’t tread on me” Virginians actually meant “don’t tread on me TOO LIGHTLY.”

Haha. Yeah, apparently it means steal all my data from the government and create a dystopian surveillance society.

Please don't confuse the organization with the movement, which basically means Cops don't have a right to shoot people of color in the back and get away with it.

Why are so many convinced that their authoritarian policies of firing scientists, targeting universities, banning critical race theory, deporting people without any due process, arresting judges etc. are about "freedom"?

Also when was the country actually free and when did cease to be free, in their view?

If you are of the mindset that the long march has captured institutions and that the uniparty is listening to donors rather than voters, then they believe an authoritarian strongman as the only way to regain freedoms lost.

That is the appeal of populism.l, be it rightwing or leftwing.

I remember being told we couldn’t be in public spaces unless we gave into authoritarian control and took a shot that didn’t stop infection or transmission of a disease.

You mean that type of “freedom”?

You remember wrong.

Please show where there is evidence that you couldn't be in ANY public spaces. That is a total lie.

Go look at the overlap in funding for both parties

See how trumps agenda by and large never makes it through Congress

Nice manipulation of the facts.

But let's pretend that was a sign of authoritarian control. How does your once in a century, dealing with a pandemic, caution compare to sending people to human rights violating maximum security prisons in another country?
