Why are so many convinced that authoritarianism is "freedom"?

Every Trumper/MAGA/Q person says they want to "restore freedom." Why are so many convinced that their authoritarian policies of firing scientists, targeting universities, banning critical race theory, deporting people without any due process, arresting judges etc. are about "freedom"?

Also when was the country actually free and when did cease to be free, in their view?

I remember being told we couldn’t be in public spaces unless we gave into authoritarian control and took a shot that didn’t stop infection or transmission of a disease.

Because with freedom comes responsibility. And decent parents teach this to 8 year olds. These choats didn’t have decent parents. So they think freedom means the unlimited ability to do, say, hurt, stomp on, degrade, insult whatever and whoever they want— without social consequences. And they are right. They are, in fact, free to be flaming a++holes. But no one ever taught them that their behavior could have consequences and rest of us are free to tell them they a frigging morons who should STFU. They missed that part of the lesson.

Also, freedom isn’t unlimited. In general, your freedom ends when your actions limit my freedoms or harm me or other people. Their parents didn’t teach them this either. That’s just part of living in a civilized society.

And they’re pissed that people have finally started calling them on their cr@p, rather than sitting there and taking it. MeToo, BLM, etc, etc. Women and minorities are standing up and speaking out. They no longer know their place.

You want to highlight BLM as some kind of righteous movement? The organization itself was run by a couple of huge grifters. Yeah let's get rid of police and just have....riots? The movement didn't accomplish anything useful.

Authoritarianism, objective observers are identifying the trademark characteristics of that in the U.S.

The government threatening to take away the licenses of broadcasters whose news reports criticize the government is a sign of authoritarianism.

Removing people from the US to foreign prisons without due process is authoritarianism.

Threatening intellectuals (universities and science) is authoritarianism.

We have literally morons running federal agencies because the president thinks they look the part and they show absolute fealty to him.

Americans are pushing back.

Pretending it isn’t happening is going to look like a bad decision when the president turns on you, which he will unless you bend at the knee to him.

MAGA freedom = anarchy that redounds to their benefit. Put another way, the ability to bully others who they "deem to be lesser" without fear of repercussion.
