You did see the dress came in other prints, including a lemon print, and some solid colors, no? |
That store and dress and not geared towards 40 year old moms, but I’m sure you know what you’ll look good in. -NP, mom to 18 yr old daughter |

| It really depends on age, 13/14 is very different from 16/17 years old. For 13/14 is also much harder. We had good luck with Aqua dresses, BCBG also, and just going to Nordstrom and checking their different dresses. |
I have seen that style of midi dress in many stores that cater towards adult women this season. |
This is funny, because Abercrombie has made a deliberate effort to pivot and cater to the Millenial generation (40ish) for whom it was cool in their youth. They actively want the 40 year old moms and that's reflected in a lot of their clothing. They're competing with Madewell. |
Right? And hilarious to snottily imply a 40 year old wouldnt look good in a generic fit and flare shape midi dress |

If I saw a 40 year old woman in a white and cherry print sundress, I’d find that very weird.
Also, yes it is a sundress. 40 year olds and 15 year olds wear sundresses. But there are usually small differences, apparent when one is wearing it. For example, I bet the fabric is thin on that dress and maybe even it is a little seethrough. Also, I bet that subtlties in the cut of the dress are more flattering to a youthful figure. I do think it’s a nice dress option for what is OP asking for. I also think as a PP said, it makes a big difference if OP’s daughter is 13 vs 16. |
Better not be. If would be cute on a teen but make no bones about it this is a store making clothes for fit women in their 30s and early 40s. The cherry print aside (because the dress comes in like 12 colors and patterns) if you're worried about a fit for a teen dontshop at Abercrombie, it's not for them anymore than Eileen Fisher is. |
Some - but not all - of the teens at our church would definitely wear that. |
My 13 year old was at a mall birthday party with friends recently and one of the places they stopped at was Abercrombie. Definitely still a teen thing too, plus a place for Millenial nostalgia (despite the quality being totally shot). |
| I love Abercrombie for my 5’11”, fairly modest teen because they have dresses in tall sizes. |
| I missed the memo that cherry prints are only for youths. Can someone explain it to me? Are 40 somethings supposed to avoid all prints and only wear solid colors or is there something in particular about cherries? |

Back to the topic, we have had some success at Francesca's, Macy's (Tysons has a lot of dresses), and recently TJ Maxx. But my 14 y.o. is very tall and in ladies sizes. She did find dresses at Frankie's (Francesca's girls line) thanks to DCUM when she was a younger teen/tween.
We did have to order different bras, and just a reminder to see if the dress needs a slip. So many brands, even expensive ones, don't seem to line their dresses. Call me a pearl clutcher, but I don't think it is appropriate to wear see through clothing. And for some church/synagogue events she has worn a cardigan over her dress. Depends on her style, but J. Crew Factory, etc. could also work. H&M carries a lot of dresses, various lengths - solids and prints. Good luck! |
