I stopped drinking coffee and I am surprised by the effect on my weight. Anyone else?

It is primarily belly bloat that is gone and I am guessing water weight. But has anyone had a similar experience ?

It doesn’t make sense to me as it was black coffee (no milk no sugar) and I replaced it with tea with as splash of milk and I am actually hungrier in the morning as black coffee had a bit of an appetite suppressant effect for me. So if anything I replaced the coffee with more calories in the morning.

Could it be just the cortisol effect? Anyone else noticed a positive change after they stopped coffee?

Yes and yes.

Coffee is a traditional digestif and will cause weight gain and fat redistribution to the midsection, regardless of how you drink it, due to the stimulant nature of the caffeine.

Just wanted to add to this, stimulants can help you lose fat also, IF used properly.

The science behind it is caffeine will help "loosen" fats and send them into the bloodstream, so if you are in Ketosis, you will use those released fats as fuel during exercise.

If you drink coffee and don't immediately exercise afterwards, those fats that were in the bloodstream will be redeposited, usually around the midsection.

Thanks that’s interesting, had never heard of this

My digestion always gets much better when I take breaks from coffee and I am definitely less bloated. I also sleep better and just feel better overall. My skin is also less dry with less breakouts. I'm not sure if I've ever noticed weight loss, but I am 1 week in to another break, so I am going to monitor it. I always go back to it at some point, but I'm going to try and give it up for a couple months to deal with some digestive issues I've been having.

+1 I think I’m going to try taking a break and switch to hot tea.

If I'm wanting to lose weight, I need to cut out coffee. My system doesn't seem to burn fat the same way when I'm regularly drinking coffee. My body also feels worse.

It's the alcohol. I quit drinking and lost 55 pounds. My face was chubby and swollen, now I am a 20 BMI and have cheekbones again. I was getting edema in my legs over the course of the day. All that fluid is gone now and I feel so much better!

It's both, but the coffee is worse. Stimulants advance aging.

Coffee/caffeine also thins the skin by redistributing fat deposits, so the face and hands and extremities lose fat under the skin, causing loose skin, more wrinkles, etc.

Isn't it called a stack - aspirin, ephedrine, and caffeine ; I thought that was supposed to help you lose weight but does a whole bunch of bad stuff to you.

Does decaffeinated coffee have the same negative effects on weight gain, etc as regular coffee?

How much alcohol were you drinking per day? And how much coffee per day? A cup of coffee is the size of a tea cup (8oz). A mug is about two cups (16oz).

It's caffeine or ephedra when it was still legal, plus a half grapefruit, and a 80mg baby aspirin that was a popular legal cheap stack that came about and was popular in the 1980s-1990s. Still is, but like I mentioned in an earlier post, you must exercise and burn off those tryglicerides in your bloodstream after taking it.

It works well if you wake up and have that stack, with a little meat (no carbs other than the half grapefruit) and then exercise and do morning routine until lunch. You will have the 8 hours sleep of no carbs, plus that, will help boost ketosis all morning.

Not so much as far as weight gain, but decaf coffee has other health drawbacks and risks, as the process to remove the caffeine involves toxic chemicals such as methylene chloride and ethyl acetate.

On average I would say I was drinking 2 mugs through the morning and a cup (or an espresso shot) early afternoon. Sometimes less sometimes a bit more but rarely. I had given up on Lattes and cappuccinos a couple months ago already and drank my coffee black (no sugar, no sweetener).

Alcohol : on glass of wine a day (6 oz but sometimes veering to an 8 oz). Except Fridays and Saturdays, when it was usually 2 if home or more like 3-4 if at a dinner party.

I stopped coffee a week before i stopped alcohol and saw an effect on my lower belly. Less hard/ tense/ bloated (or the effect of something else but I can’t think what, it would need to be an independent hormonal cycle effect and my cycle usually doesn’t have that effect).

I expected stopping alcohol would have an impact but I had zero expectations that coffee would matter. On the contrary as it tends to act as an appetite suppressant for me. That’s why I asked here if someone else felt the same.

Almost 3 weeks without coffee now and I would say, I think I really feel less tense and dehydrated and my lower belly feels less tensed. It used to be hard and a bit painful (and I am sure lack of alcohol is a big part in this). And even if I eat more in the morning, I end up being less hungry at lunch.

As another person pointed out, the biggest change so far though is my lingering heartburn/ unpleasant empty stomach is gone (duh.. writing this it seems so obvious now). And the heartburn made me snack. I felt the need to put something in my stomach even though I wasn’t really hungry.

Now having an empty stomach is not painful. I can wait to feel hunger until the feeling of emptiness is in my intestines, not my stomach. Not sure if this will make sense to all but it makes a big difference. I eat my 3 meals a day as usual but there is no discomfort in between

Pretty sure op is just sensitive to coffee. Losing weight when stopping coffee is just not a thing.
