I don't have the episodes, but searched, and here's the discussion of the recent YCBK episode. https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/45/1263737.page Can't find the Dartmouth one. Wish the search was better on here. |
I can't stand how YCBK breaks episodes up. Just put the entire interview in one episode, and don't try to have as many sub-stories per episode. |
apple podcasts on my phone. |
Your College Bound Kid has no sponsors or commercials. It’s too much for some people and can get respective if you’ve been listening for a long time but I think it is the most helpful. |
I’m a regular listener too and believe Mark said you can now listen to the full interviews in one stretch on his website. Haven’t looked into it but you may be interested. |
All of YCBK is a low-key advertisement for their counseling service. But listening to AOs isn’t any better—they’re all low-key advertising their colleges. Everyone’s talking their book. |
It’s very low key and fairly unobtrusive. Feels useful and not a shill. The College Admissions Process Podcast is pretty good. He’s a high school principal who interviews an admissions rep from a different college each episode. |
Whatever happened to “The Game: The Guide to Elite College Admissions” ? He hasn’t had an episode since Nov. On two occasions, he spent 4 hours breaking down a student’s application in minute detail and I wonder if he got in trouble for it. I can imagine a parent would be upset. Those episodes were removed. He also did an entire episode analyzing Harvard Westlake’s matriculation data . |
Really? I am curious why. He is one of the only ones I genuinely like. I admit that I sometimes have a hard time listening to the former college admissions officers who do not sound very bright/have vocal fry or upseak and the ones who areblatantly marketing their services. I don't like everyone of CEG's episodes but I do like him. What is it that turns you off? |
He discussed way more specific details about what he advises his clients to do when developing a narrative and filling out apps than any other podcast. Maybe his company decided they were giving too much of their strategy away? |
I kinda adore YCBK. It comes out enough and is so bonkers long that I can skip a ton of it (I completely skip some cohosts) and still get a lot out of it.
He did an episode last year with Vince that was a post mortem on the admissions cycle that I enjoyed so much I had my kid listen to it. It really helped to show him that, beyond what he could do for his own application, there were forces outside his control. You gotta do your best and then, let the chips just fall. It's not personal. It's a complicate and evolving landscape. I think they're doing that again. PS I worry Mark has given up on his weight loss, which is too bad. It was another thing I skipped over, but I like Mark and wish him well. Take the GLP1s, Mark! |
I want Mark to take GLP1s as well. Dedicated listener that has a lot of affection for Mark. |
Agree the Game is the one with the most pointed and practical advice for T25. Every posted episode is worth listening to. He’s a bit repetitive and wordy but very good on list building and positioning - all actionable stuff I found. YCBK is decent too but it covers a much wider playing field so you will need to skip quite a bit. |
This. I mean I listened to the long Stanford one, came up with a plan for my kid’s Stanford app and helped execute it. It was definitely helpful. They have short newsletters on their site. I think Shift podcast is associated with them though? |
Me too!! |
