Reid email , protecting immigrants

Would feel much better if this statement -“what remains unchanging is our commitment to ensuring all students benefit from a world-class education here in FCPS” were true.

Mask mandates protected our lives and our health. I cannot wait until 50 years from now when all your kids have covid shingles and mine are completely healthy.

You know you can only get shingles if you had the chicken pox at some point. Thankfully my children are vaccinated against chicken pox, have never had the chicken pox, so they cannot possibly get shingles. You are an idiot.

Try google.

It will tell you that you can get shingles after receiving the chickenpox vaccine, though it is a lower chance than natural infection.

Use correct facts when making a point.

You sound delusional.

The closing line "We will remain in the light" is unnecessarily passive aggressive by implicitly stating that that new Trump policies represent darkness. This criticism will be interpreted as insubordination by policy makers and damage professional relationships with those implementing new directives.

Beyond its weird political implications, the phrase is just strange. Parents need clear statements rather than abstract language that’s oddly religious.

If this is the only thing you can find wrong among the facts about Supreme Court cases and that FCPS will abide by the law, you’re the problem. Maybe get some help for being so easily triggered.

Thank you for using the subjunctive.

I agree. It’s poking the hornets nest. And sounds quite pretentious.

I do not like the Trump policy, but the FCPS lawyers who reviewed this are just wrong.

Her email stated:

“ The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA, enacted in 1974, also protects the privacy of student information. To be clear, Fairfax County Public Schools is not permitted by law to collect the immigration status of our students or their families.”

FERPA does not prohibit the collection of immigration status; rather, it governs the disclosure of such information once it is collected. While FERPA ensures the privacy of student records and prohibits their release without consent, it does not restrict schools from gathering information about a student’s immigration status for educational purposes such providing services like language support or determining eligibility for state or federal programs. The focus of FERPA is on protecting the privacy of this information, not on restricting its collection.

Additionally, FERPA ***allows for the disclosure of student records to law enforcement agencies*** in certain situations, which could include immigration authorities.

Of note too is that Reid had a massive FERPA issue last year when the records for all of the IEP/504 students were released. I don’t think she should be reminding anyone about FERPa for a while.

Also in agreement. Reminds me of the sanctimonious, "Democracy Dies in Darkness" garbage.

+3 adding that line while multiple sports scandals have happened under her watch this year is pretty bold.

Funny!
Older generations seemed to understand the sentiment. Now it sanctimonious? Must be the dumbing down of America

She's an idiot and the entire verbose boomer style email should just be a slack post of "we will be mindful of our immigrant population but will follow all laws". Period and done.

I'm ready to turn in their entire dei department as I see it as a waste of my tax dollars, I am also eager to rid the school of all the undocumented taking resources away from my children.

Unauthorized immigrants are not supposed to be eligible for free meals under the school lunch program. (Wild, I know!) By law, FCPS requires parents to provide a social security number when they are applying for free meals for their child.

Many schools are under the “community” provision so parents do not need to submit an application.

This email painted a target on our school system.
