Do Coach bags carry the same stigma outside of the USA?

Actually lower class is when you try to create a caste system or income declaration off of a handbag.

Don’t come for me. But, I think the stigma is that there are many knock offs because a certain segment of the population thinks it makes them look rich and fancy. So they’re using knock offs and walk around Walmart with fake huge logo purses. I didn’t think it was limited to coach but also Gucci.

Well, there is outlet coach with the horses and covered wagon that is cheaper quality. Then there is department store Coach with the "C" and no wagon. They are basically different brands. The covered wagon ones are for the fake nails and eyelash crowd who squeeze themselves into way too small clothing walking up and down the aisle of Walmart.

File this under TIL. I have never paid attention to the differences.

Nope. Nice try. Lower class is the part of society with the least power and wealth. It has nothing to do with handbags.

I just bought a Coach bag for the first time in two decades. The new ones remind me of the classic 90s ones, so it feels a little nostalgic to me. Remember the nice leather ones, before they went all-in on cloth logos and had a lifetime guarantee?

I buy what I think looks and feels good - not what is trendy or popular. My most recent other purchases have been Polene and Valextra.

Stigma? Try not worrying about what other people think. Anyway, they seem to be marketing to a younger crowd.

This bag is super cute:

And this one is pretty classic and functional---I like the idea of a smaller bag that you can comfortable carry on your shoulder:

Yes. I sold some vintage ones and they went FAST.

Anything accessible to the masses will quickly become pedestrian. Just look at Stanley, Ugg, Lululemon, Drunk Elephant, etc. You don't have to be rich or even upper middle class to buy these things.

Coach bags are back in. Some people have not gotten the memo yet, but in terms of price/quality, it's a great brand.

There is no stigma with Coach bags. The are considered a top midrange brand. Their leather is much better quality than Chanel, LV, Gucci, Prada, and yes, Goyard. Now I will say the quality has dramatically dropped from 25-30 years ago, so that you tells how crappy these “luxurious” are. Bottega Veneta, Demellier, Mulberry, Anya Hindmarch, Strathberry and Serapian are much better selections. YMMV.

I’m happy to see that Coach has returned to its leather roots. There is no stigma associated with quality leather goods.

I'm also 40 and yeah, Coach does have a stigma associated with it.

I know that it is trendy again and their true vintage bags are great quality, but I'm not sure I'd ever be able to bring myself to buy a new Coach bag. When I was a young adult they were definitely considered "Hermes for Housekeepers": a brand poor people considered fancy and aspirational but that actual rich people would not wear.

I also probably could never bring myself to buy Michael Kors for the same reason.

As a certified basic rich bish, I think you want to have no opinion at all about coach bags.
