Was Carter the most recent president to have sent his child to attend DCPS?

They were already in college by the time he was inaugurated.

Bush girls graduated from a big public HS in Austin though had gone to private schools earlier.

They never attended public schools back in their respective states.

Chelsea attended public school all the way thru in Little Rock before she went to Sidwell

The Bush twins were in college when their dad won but they went to public high school

It’s not admirable to send your kids to public school. You either do or you don’t. The only people who think it’s admirable are the ones who have a chip on their shoulders about private schools. If you don’t like private, don’t send your kids there. But it’s none of your business what other people do. They’re actually keeping your property taxes down by paying for something they’re not going to use.

Where did Ford’s kids go to school?

You are defensive about a discussion about potus kids. Unless you are a former First Lady, this post was not about you.

Hard disagree. You are buying advantages for your children. Other people find that to be inequitable and don’t want to be a part of it. It has nothing to do with being jealous of you and your kids.

I cannot think of any others since then.

Carter was the only President who walked the talk. Funny how Democrats want school choice only for themselves, but not for middle class Americans.

Not being defensive at all. Responding to the idea it’s something to be “admired” to choose public school. It’s not. People are free to choose for their families what they want. It’s none of anyone else’s business.

And the anti-private school people who insist on being in others business really need to get their stories straight… is it a waste of money or buying an advantage?

If I remember correctly Carter's daughter walked to and from school. ALL BY HERSELF.

Imagine a USA President in this day and age doing that.

IMO it can be both. My kids have attended both public and private schools, there are advantages and disadvantages to both.

But back to this thread, I think knowing Obama and Clinton’s backgrounds (JDs from elite law schools, academia for Obama) it’s no surprise their kids went to Sidwell. I’m also not surprised Bush’s girls went to public hs in Austin.

Most Dems and I think most of not all Republicans will send their kids to the fancy private schools. That’s who they are. A few “real” ones will do public school so they walk the walk. (Assuming the public school is not a complete horror). I bet even today Carter would at least consider DCPS or some charter or magnet or something. Or public school in VA. Not sure who besides Carter fit in there… Bernie Sanders maybe if he had school aged kids…

Where did Barron go to school? Wasn’t it private locally?

His nanny for Amy was also a (wrongfully) convicted murderer:
