It’s not admirable to send your kids to public school. You either do or you don’t. The only people who think it’s admirable are the ones who have a chip on their shoulders about private schools. If you don’t like private, don’t send your kids there. But it’s none of your business what other people do. They’re actually keeping your property taxes down by paying for something they’re not going to use.
You are defensive about a discussion about potus kids. Unless you are a former First Lady, this post was not about you.
Not being defensive at all. Responding to the idea it’s something to be “admired” to choose public school. It’s not. People are free to choose for their families what they want. It’s none of anyone else’s business. And the anti-private school people who insist on being in others business really need to get their stories straight… is it a waste of money or buying an advantage?
IMO it can be both. My kids have attended both public and private schools, there are advantages and disadvantages to both. But back to this thread, I think knowing Obama and Clinton’s backgrounds (JDs from elite law schools, academia for Obama) it’s no surprise their kids went to Sidwell. I’m also not surprised Bush’s girls went to public hs in Austin. Most Dems and I think most of not all Republicans will send their kids to the fancy private schools. That’s who they are. A few “real” ones will do public school so they walk the walk. (Assuming the public school is not a complete horror). I bet even today Carter would at least consider DCPS or some charter or magnet or something. Or public school in VA. Not sure who besides Carter fit in there… Bernie Sanders maybe if he had school aged kids…
