When does bedwetting stop ?

Anonymous
DD 9 next week still wets the bed. Not every night but 4-5 times a week on average. She sleeps so hard that she doesnt wake up for anything. It scares me because DH started our zero-turn in the garage to move it and the smoke alarms started going off and she didnt wake up.

I was hoping she stopped before she turned 9 but unfortunately i dont see her stopping any time soon. I know its not her fault but I am still overwhelmed sometimes. Just curious on how everyone here manages it with their older one.

Ds turns 10 tomorrow and he still wetting the bed at least 6 nights a week . We just have him wear goodnites and go on about our lives. We just buy them for him and put them in his closent when he gets low . The only time we discuss it is if he leaks which seldom happens.

I also have her wear a goodnite to bed. Unfortunately, we get leaks here though. Not every night but I would say 1-2 times a week on average. She just helps me with the sheets in the morning. I wish she would tell me she is low on them. Just last week I didn't know she was out so I had to make an emergency run to Walmart.

She takes it all in stride and doesn't let if affect her emotionally. Yes, she would rather not wear one she but prefers to avoid waking up in a wet bed. We do limit her fluids before bed and I am shocked that she is completely soaked by the morning.

The closest store here is a good 40 minute drive one way and thankfully they are open 24/7. I don't think its an embarrassment for her. We had family over here for the holiday and she told her cousin that she still wears a diaper to bed (we don't call them diapers, she does). I have told her that it is not a good idea to be that open about it to everyone. That is something you need to keep somewhat private.

Limited fluids was hard for us when my daughter was doing it. Especially since her friend who also wear pull up to bed told her she can drink whatever she wants because she has pull-ups. It was great she had a friend with the same problem, but if they limited fluids she would’ve stop way earlier than she did. We had the same problems with her forgetting she was running low, I had remind her when I went grocery shopping toward the end of the week to see how many underwear she had left. It was every other week

Previous poster with son turning 10 tomorrow we usually buy the goodnites xl in a big box at Walmart. The checker told me last week that her little brother still wears goodnites at 12.5 years old . I was hoping to leave this problem behind us way before then but guess we'll see with time . My grocery budget would love to be done buying them.

My 9yo girl stopped with bribery. But I suspect it was the combo of biology and bribery that helped.

Anonymous wrote:Our son wet the bed through age 7. We found using a Bedwetting alarm (consistently, getting to him immediately to get his feet on the floor, walk him to the bathroom even if already peed) worked after several weeks.

Invest in pads that can sit on top of the fitted sheet. Just switch the wet one for a dry one, reattach the alarm and go back to bed. It felt like having a newborn again with the night wake-ups, but it worked.

Yes, this. We initially acquired a bedwetting alarm but it didn't seem to work. I took my child to all kinds of doctors, from several pediatricians, to urologist, to nephrologist. A very good pediatrician advised that by age 13 our child would grow out if this. It didn't sound good, of course, as my child was only 6 then. Then a highly regarded nephrologist, after ruling out everything and taking into account our consultations with other specialists, advised to work with a psychologist who worked with bedwetting. Our first meeting resulted in specific instructions on how to use the alarm properly. Wake up the child, move the child to the bathroom, even if there is nothing left to pee, sit the child on the toilet (potty for little ones), all in order to start forming necessary brain reactions. The psychologist advised that we would need patience and the process could take 1.5 months. That's how long it took. I couldn't believe I've had the solution all along and just didn't know how to use it.

And, PP here, I just remembered that when we saw an endocrinologist about the problem, he prescribed what turned out to be anti-depressants as a solution. I was taken aback and the nephrologist poo-pooed the advice, to my great relief!

My son stopped at 7.5. My 5.5 daughter is still wearing a diaper at night.

My son suddenly stopped at 10. I thought it would never end, but all of a sudden he was just try. My oldest was dry by 5 or 6, so 10 felt very old. I have a 7 year old now, who is still consistently having a wet pull-up at night.

Put on a subscription order them and have them come every X days. Can do this with several companies so it isn't on the kid to remember to tell you at night when they take the last one and they also have to remember to read, brush teeth, go to the toilet, etc. OR have an extra set in a closet somewhere for emergencies.
