Isn’t it a huge plus, the removal of illegals that the new administration is promising? This could significantly reduce the number of students and the numbers that need extra support. The kids are American citizens

Your delusional if you think Arlington doesn’t have a large illegal population

OK, but tons of those kids were born here and are citizens and have equal rights to you

Then they aren’t getting deported

Yeah, that's my point

and if they live in Arlington they are paying (through rent) property taxes and car taxes and sales taxes etc so their families are paying for the schools....?

Undocumented immigrants generally do not pay their fair share of taxes compared to citizens, and here’s why:

Lack of Income Tax Contributions: Many undocumented immigrants work in jobs that pay cash "under the table," avoiding income taxes entirely. This means they do not contribute to federal and state income taxes, which fund critical services such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

No Contributions to Social Security and Medicare: In "under-the-table" employment situations, undocumented workers also avoid paying into Social Security and Medicare. These are essential programs that legal residents pay into throughout their working lives, providing a safety net for older adults and those in need of medical assistance.

Limited Property Tax Contributions: While some undocumented immigrants may rent properties, they do not directly pay property taxes. Property taxes are often the primary source of funding for local public schools and other municipal services. The indirect contribution through rent is generally lower than what homeowners pay directly, and it doesn’t fully account for the services used by these families.

Minimal Contribution via Sales Taxes: Although undocumented immigrants do pay sales taxes on goods they buy, these contributions are relatively minor compared to income and property taxes. Sales taxes alone are insufficient to cover the public services used by all residents.

Higher Use of Public Services: Because many undocumented immigrants are in lower-income brackets, they often rely more heavily on public resources such as education and emergency healthcare services. The demand for these services increases costs for taxpayers, yet without equivalent contributions from undocumented workers to offset these expenses.

While undocumented immigrants do contribute in small ways, the lack of income tax, Social Security, Medicare, and direct property tax contributions means they do not pay their share like citizens, placing a disproportionate burden on tax-funded services.

Supreme Court said otherwise a--hole.

Supreme Court said we had to educate them while they are here. It didn’t say we cannot deport them a—home.

I think if kids come in and see a bunch of their classmates have disappeared, they will not be ready to sit at a desk and learn.

No matter where you fall on this issue, rounding up school kids that are already here is not the way to address it.

I’ll tell you what is already happened, teenage boys are reposting on social media “your body my choice” thinking it’s funny and let me tell you many girls were crying in the bathroom yesterday at school, calling their friends upset after school, etc. these are boys is that were their friends or more in some cases posting this nonsense even if they think it is a joke it is not funny. If you have a son and you think he would never do anything like this you need to talk with him anyway. Some of these are kids of “ Liberal families“. Teen girls aren’t messing around; they plan to a teen shot who’s doing it and they’re going to out them on social media.

I work in APS and feel the strain, we’ve had a big influx of WIDA 1 kids, but I also care deeply for them and would be devastated if they left in such a traumatic way

I predict that this would result in higher-quality schools, lower expenditures, and increased safety.

Donald Trump's proposed deportation policies aim to address many concerns about the impact of undocumented immigration on public services. His policies include:

Mass Deportations: Trump has pledged to remove millions of undocumented immigrants, which would lessen the strain on resources like public schools and reduce the tax burden.
Utilizing the Alien Enemies Act of 1798: This would expedite deportations, ensuring that policies are enforced swiftly.
Ending Birthright Citizenship: By ending birthright citizenship for children of undocumented parents, Trump aims to prioritize resources for legal citizens.
Reinstating Previous Policies: Bringing back the "Remain in Mexico" program and other previous measures would help control immigration levels.
Expanding the Border Wall: By continuing to build the border wall, Trump seeks to further secure the U.S. border and control unauthorized immigration.
These policies are intended to reduce the pressure on public schools and lessen the tax burden for Americans. I am looking forward to taking back our public schools.

Do you really? Or are you looking forward to less funding so that our high-legal-immigrant schools continuing to fail and you can finally get those private school vouchers?

The types of jobs being paid under the table are unlikely to be of annual incomes subjected to high income taxes anyway.
Immigrants fill these jobs which otherwise go unfilled because snooty Americans are unwilling to perform such tasks.
Their sales taxes are the same as everyone else's and proportional to their spending - unlike income taxes which are disproportional and upside down.

I find it troubling how few people understand how government works. It takes an act of Congress to get rid of DoEd. It's certainly possible a Republican-held Senate and House could get this done, but seems pretty unlikely. They'd have to figure out where else to place the Title 1 dollars and administration of Title 1 first. Congress does not want to just get rid of Title 1 funding. That would be extremely unpopular.

Presidential candidates say all sorts of crap that is not something that is actually under their purview. Also, FYI, Congress appropriates funds not the president.

Schools aren't failing kids. Parents are failing kids. Schools are not babysitting services. Schools are not mental hospitals. Schools are not rehab centers. Teachers are there to educate and they're not paid enough to do these other services that you'd expect an expert to do.

Nobody wins if you break up families. I think it’s often the parents (one or both) that are “illegal”. And even if it includes the child, what an awful scenario. How can it be good for children to live with fear. There is no benefit for the student body or school community. It’s one thing to cut down on migration but there is no benefit whatsoever to deportation.
