My spouse and his family are Jewish and this is I think where they are. They believe, because of the Holocaust and the way that other countries including the US treated Jews trying to flee, that Israel MUST exist and has the right to defend itself against any threats, of which there are many. If another Holocaust were to occur, Jews of the world must have somewhere to go. That said, they are not big fans of Bibi. |
You and others like you are the reason for this conflict |
When 2/3 of the entire world’s population of your religion have been murdered simply for being that religion, then maybe you can develop some empathy. |
OP here. Do you not see non-Jewish people as members of your fellow humanity in someway? For me (as a third party US non-Jewish, non-Muslim observer), it's very difficult for me to see anything besides the numbers at this point. Based on your response, I'm gathering that 1200 Jewish individuals killed on October 7th are considerably more valuable than the 25000-ish civilians killed in Gaza. I don't say this to be over critically... I get it. War is war and Hamas fights with Guerrilla tactics. You may argue this is cowardly or essential, but it is what it is. |
OP here. When one calls on demanding strategies against protestors, I feel affronted as an American. It's as if you want to take away my rights to express myself, and, frankly, I think that doing so is an act of war. I'll never agree with the silencing of protests or suppressing free speech. Violence and harassment are a different story, but I'm of the opinion that someone should be able to hold up a vile, deplorable sign with every slur known to make on it in a peaceful / non harassing way and not be "punished as a terrorist". |
Dp. Every single one of those civilians would be alive today if Hamas hadn't invaded Israel and massacred 1200 kids at a music festival and a bunch of families living on communes. Hamas declared war on Israel and war is what they got. The death of innocent civilians - I'm thinking of children here and not the majority of adults in Gaza that support Hamas - is tragic. That is why most people avoid war. Rational human beings do not willingly engage in such destruction and death. But Hamas and their supporters in Gaza inexplicably chose to invade Israel and commit all those atrocities. No Israeli has set foot in Gaza in twenty years. And yet Hamas invaded. And thus, war. All the German civilians that died in WWII - millions - would have lived out their natural lives if the Nazis hadn't invaded Poland. It's the same reality at play here. That is the nature of war. I don't care for Netanyahu and I am appalled at Israel's actions in the West Bank. But I very much believe that Israel is fighting a just war against Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Both groups are for the annihilation of Jews. And as long as such groups and governments exist, I fully support the right of Israel to exist and defend itself. As do the vast majority of Americans. |

Nothing. There are disgusting war criminals on all sides and they have all perpetrated horrors on innocent civilians.
I wish we could pluck all the Israeli war-mongerers, Hamas and Hezbollah leaders, and Iran leaders, and have them fight it out gladiator style in an arena. To the death. The last man standing receives capital punishment. The innocent civilians stay safely in their homes. Also, Palestine deserves its own State. |
You imbecile, Israel does exactly THAT every day, not just on that one day! What planet do you live on? |
Prior to 10/7, Israel was so kind to the Palestinians - I mean, it’s not like they stole their land, massacred their families, tortured and killed tens of thousands over the years, had a shoot-on-sight policy for anyone even stepping within feet of the absolute land, sea, and air blockade imposed on Gaza and the West Bank, humiliated them relentlessly, set lazy slob settlers on them with authorization to steal their land and kill as needed, or anything like that! |
Please provide unbiased, clear evidence that 25,000 innocent civilians who were not tied to Hamas and/or Hezbollah have died as a result of the ongoing conflict. Even accepting these numbers, what it comes down to, is that one side is clearly trying to minimize civilian casualties, that is why the first attack on Lebanon was utilizing pagers and radios known to be operated by Hezbollah, and the second was a targeted bombing of Hezbollah’s headquarters. Meanwhile Hezbollah (and Hamas) shoot thousands of rockets directly targeting Israeli civilians and kidnap Jewish women and children. |

From the start of Israel as a nation until today, it has killed significantly more civilians outside its own borders than any anti-Israel entity has killed Israelis. The pro-Israel lobby likes to start its grievance countdown from Oct 7, 2024, because in that conflict Israel was not the first aggressor - even though it's murdered 10 times more people than it suffered losses - but the reality is that Israel has always employed disproportionate military responses and is responsible for the most civilian deaths in the region. Israel is a war criminal state, just like Iran and Lebanon. It likes to virtue signal to the US and Europe and portray itself as victim, just like Iran and Lebanon like to virtue signal in their own neck of the woods and portray themselves as victims. But the truth is that they're all bad, and they all torture and kill innocents in the Middle East. |
Following the events of the Holocaust, the Jewish people of the world must always have a country, a home, that will welcome them. So many countries, including the US, turned away Jewish refugees during the Holocaust. This actually happened, less than 100 years ago. And that is why Israel’s very existence means so much to the Jewish people. If you do not view it through that lens, it is more difficult to understand. |
DP I understand that many Jews feel that way, but the Zionism experiment is an unmitigated failure in my book. Besides, the message sent that Jews can only find safety in one place (as opposed to wherever they live) is just unacceptable, and something that should have been focused on following WWII. |
DP You wouldn’t believe it if the hearts of all 25,000+ innocent civilians were left on your doorstep with an affidavit from God himself that each of them was nothing more than an innocent civilian trying to live a peaceful life. You’re evil. Unmitigated evil. |
I agree. Because first of all, it's 42,252 Palestinian victims in Gaza. Compared to 1139 Israeli victims. 42252 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>1139 The numbers tell you everything. Also, this is but one of the many such wars Israel has waged. It always ends with more Palestinian deaths than Israeli deaths. ALWAYS. Israel is NOT a victim here. It's the perpetual oppressor, since its inception. (Personally, I believe in the right of all peoples to have their own state. I support a two state solution for Israel and Palestine.) |
