Seriously. I am not sure how this is not the obvious solution, OP.

Really? Kind of gross.
I have never seen anyone open up the order and double check everything in the bag. You might count the items like if you ordered 5 sandwiches you might make sure there were five packages but you would open up every single sandwich to make sure they have the correct things in the sandwich?

Yes? It isn't hard to do nor is it gross. Don't you know how to open a sandwich without being gross about it? What is wrong with you?

People just lack basic skills these days. PP probably doesn't know how to eat without making a mess either.

Stop ordering so much takeout. We’re busy too. We both work and our kids have something every night. This is a total first world problem.

I called a popular bagel / sandwich store that messed up a to-go order and was told that I should have checked the bag before leaving.
I repeated back to them what they just said and asked - are you seriously saying that I should have opened up each sandwich order before I left?
Their response was yes.
For a bagel sandwich that is costing me move than $10, I assume the store would have a process in place to check an order is correct / complete

Your first problem was patronizing a place that charges $10+ for a bagel sandwich. WTAF with that nonsense

NP. I wouldn't say gross, but it does seem pretty annoying. Takeout is supposed to packed up tight to avoid leaks and spills, so it would a bit much having to sit there, unwrap the paper around each sandwich (probably without washing your hands first), getting drippy stuff on your hands and all over the bag, opening each sandwich to check ingredients (that sandwich might be meant for another person who doesn't appreciate you doing that), and then trying to re-wrap everything tightly before you bring it in the car. And there are some things you might not realize until you eat the sandwich, like the sauce is the wrong flavor or it's missing one ingredient.

If it were me, I would call and if they aren't apologetic or mess up more than once, I'd stop going there. But I'm not a big takeout person anyway.

No. You don't check the bag, just like doordash doesn't , if it's wrong. You get a refund and can order again

Where do you go for bagel sandwiches that are less than $10?

+1. DH never checks but I do.

We get take out pretty often and I just think that you win some and you lose some. Just like sometimes when I cook everyone loves it and sometimes it’s just meh.

We just let the small stuff slide these days. It’s not worth the effort to call and complain and frankly, we don’t want a “reputation” at places we frequent.

When I am getting charged a surcharge / tipping / delivery fee etc., I am putting it back on the restaurant to make it right.

You're an annoying customer. Why didn't you tell the restaurant first before being so demanding.

I see nothing wrong with what this PP does. She's paying for a service. She didn't get the service. They should make it right. Why would you expect any less?

I find this post really funny and pathetic at the same time. I order take out regularly, up to a few times a week, as I work FT out of the home but I'm a single mom. The "we're busy too" comment is so full of judgement and assumptions. Goodie for you you have two of you to take care of the kids. You try to take care of kids and cook for them while working 60 hours a week 6-7 days.

This is a good description of why it's so hard to check the order. You might open up a container of dumplings and think it's okay but then you taste it it's pork instead of chicken although it looked fine in the container, or look at a burger that looks okay but has the wrong type of cheese that DC won't eat, or a drink container with the wrong type of drink but these drinks are all clear or similarly colored so you wouldn't be able to figure it out until later. All things that have happened. Yes a first world problem but frustrating nonetheless.

What do I do if they mess up my order? I think about all of the people that go hungry on a daily basis because they don’t have food and then I eat the food.

I would expect a refund or some kind of discount/coupon or for them to replace it
