Check the order before you leave.
Seriously. I am not sure how this is not the obvious solution, OP.
Really? Kind of gross. I have never seen anyone open up the order and double check everything in the bag. You might count the items like if you ordered 5 sandwiches you might make sure there were five packages but you would open up every single sandwich to make sure they have the correct things in the sandwich?
Yes? It isn't hard to do nor is it gross. Don't you know how to open a sandwich without being gross about it? What is wrong with you?
NP. I wouldn't say gross, but it does seem pretty annoying. Takeout is supposed to packed up tight to avoid leaks and spills, so it would a bit much having to sit there, unwrap the paper around each sandwich (probably without washing your hands first), getting drippy stuff on your hands and all over the bag, opening each sandwich to check ingredients (that sandwich might be meant for another person who doesn't appreciate you doing that), and then trying to re-wrap everything tightly before you bring it in the car. And there are some things you might not realize until you eat the sandwich, like the sauce is the wrong flavor or it's missing one ingredient. If it were me, I would call and if they aren't apologetic or mess up more than once, I'd stop going there. But I'm not a big takeout person anyway.
This is a good description of why it's so hard to check the order. You might open up a container of dumplings and think it's okay but then you taste it it's pork instead of chicken although it looked fine in the container, or look at a burger that looks okay but has the wrong type of cheese that DC won't eat, or a drink container with the wrong type of drink but these drinks are all clear or similarly colored so you wouldn't be able to figure it out until later. All things that have happened. Yes a first world problem but frustrating nonetheless.
