WashU and Emory

Sounds similar to my daughter.
She ended up liking ND, USC & Michigan.

ND and USC would be great options if your daughter wants spirit, good academics, and a private school.

100% this. She will never like them.

Sounds like my daughter.
Her list in this order is:

Vandy
Duke
Northwestern
Wake
BC
WashU
Emory

That’s a good list…though purely based on sports enthusiasm and social scene o would move Northwestern below BC.

Yes, northwestern is not very social these days.

My kid too.

ED Vanderbilt.
Trying to push WashU for ED2.
Applying EA to Michigan, USC and UMiami.

What are your kids' safeties? All these schools listed have like 5-10% admissions rates.

There is no D3 school that will offer what your daughter wants (WashU, Emory, Chicago, CMU, NYU and Case are all in the same conference…the large D3 school). That’s just the reality.

I mean, UMCP's presumably just down the street, unless she wants to get away from the area.....

5 targets; 5 safeties.
10 reaches.

My DC is a freshman at Emory. After reading all the "lack of school spirit and social scene" on this forum, I was concerned. Couldn't be anything further than the truth. There is a very active social scene and school spirit at the school if you want it.

How does school spirit manifest at Emory? Honest question as my kid is quite interested,

What’s an average Thursday, Friday or Saturday night?

I have a college sophomore with friends at both schools. I think your daughter’s perception is on point.
There are schools that she can go to that are strong academically but much more fun.

Anonymous wrote:Can someone comment on the social and academic vibe of Emory and WashU? HS counselor recommending both, but my daughter is not excited about either due to lack of school spirit, sports, community, etc. She hears the social life on both campuses is lackluster. She is a very strong academic kid but wants to have fun. She has visited both. Didnt think kids looked happy or social. She thought washu campus was beautiful but not thrilled about st. Louis. She thought emory campus was odd layout, no sense of community, not much nearby. Any thoughts or insights into the student social and academic experience would be appreciated.

My DD felt same about both. Going to UCLA. If you don’t want DD so far, consider Duke, Northwestern, Michigan. Fits her wants much better.
