When do you work out?

Anonymous
An hour before I have to be at (home for) work.
On my lunch hour.
After work.

Around 2 pm if possible around work meetings, or more like 4 or 5. I wish it was more consistent!

6-7am, started when the kids were in ES. They are in college now, I'm still working out at 6-7am

Your kids are in school till 530? Do they have an after school sports team or something?

The people doing “early morning” — what hours are those? I need to drive my kid to school at 720am, what time does that roll back to waking up? 20 mins to cool down fully, shower and change, 5 min drive back from gym, 60 min workout, 5 min drive to gym, 5 min to wake and roll out of bed to car. That’s about 1:36 hours which means latest possible wake up is 5:45am wake up.

Is that consistent with your morning timeline? If getting up this early want time do you go to bed?

I go to bed by 9. I am up by 4 to workout at 5 am.

Early morning. I'm too tired later in the day and need to get it out of the way first thing.

I can do other active things like clean, yardwork, etc in the evening, but a "workout" (run, weights, gym, etc) has to be in the morning.

Yes. I try to be asleep by 10 at the latest.

Same. When I was working and had children at home this was the only way to ensure I could workout. If I tried to wait until evening something could always interfere, and during those years mid day workouts were not an option for me, so I woke up early specifically to work out before the kids needed to be up or before the dog needed to go out. Usually the wake up time was 5 am but on rare occasions it could be even earlier if I had an early meeting, etc. Asleep by 10 pm ideally.

I am now retired and an empty nester but I still follow this schedule! I've considered trying to workout mid morning or late afternoon, and I do add on workouts such as Pilates later in the day, but after 25+ years of early mornings, it's a hard habit to break. Also I still have a dog to work around. I seem to prefer the structure and lack of other interference of morning workouts.

I try to work out first thing in the morning. If I can’t for some reason, then I work out before dinner.

Yes aftercare or aftercare activities are till 6pm. School ends at 3.30pm, but that would be impossible for us without hiring someone to pick up. And with that I prefer that the kid stays in school and plays with friends or does classes or homework. Two income households are pretty much the default at our school, so many kids stay long and there are plenty of activities to choose from.

I have three kids, a FT job that skews early-ish (healthcare, though non-clinical), and one car! I work out at 5 AM on my in-office days - M-Th - and 6:15 on Fridays, when I work from home and don't have to spend an hour getting ready For one-offs (like yesterday), I worked out at 7:15. I go to Orangetheory. I also take one yoga class on the weekend.

It's hard getting into the routine of going to bed early enough that I feel rested when I wake up at 4:20 - I really need to be asleep by 9:30 at the latest for that to be the case - but otherwise it is truly the only time that would work for me. By the end of the workday, I am spent, and that's our "family" window anyway. It helps that I have always been a morning person.

6:00 am during the week, and as early as I can get up on weekends. Occasionally at lunch if there's something else I want to fit in. (Like I'll lift and do cardio in the am and then squeeze in 20-25 minutes of yoga at lunch.)
