I'm super curious as to how the MISA scores are going to be translated to letter grades. My kid isn't taking a class that requires the EOC exam to count as 20% this year, but will likely have one next year... has there been no explanations to students/parents affected THIS YEAR on how this will work? I can't find anything, and earlier I had assumed those affected were getting the info, but I'm worried that is just not the case now! |
Somewhere, I saw a matrix along the lines of Q3=A + Q4=A + MISA=A. == A. It wasn't well publicized, but I saw it (perhaps on DCUM!). The open question right now is what an "A" is on the MISA. (In prior years, there was no letter grade assigned.) |
My DD's bio teacher sent a note that said MISA scores are in synergy but I couldn't find them. I'm so disappointed in this process. She has borderline B's for both quarters and a low grade on this ridiculous, meaningless test will tip her. I hope MCPS parents push back on this policy. It's insane. |
Here is what was shared on the other MISA thread on DCUM in terms of last year's scores. For the state of MD, Level 4 (Distinguished): 4% - cutoff 772/850 Level 3 (Proficient): 30% - cutoff 750/850 Level 2 (Developing): 41% - cutoff 731/850 Level 1 (Beginning): 25% - cutoff 650/850 Average score: Statewide: 742 (Level 2) MCPSwide: 745 (Level 2) |
Here's the chart that shows how quarter+MISA grades will be averaged. If your kid has B's in both quarters, she'd have to get an E on the test to get a C in the semester; otherwise, she'll get a B as final semester grade no matter what. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CyVo3XgTAE0-Ku9D5EtFqozQ1NfqfaGS9yxOb2Ia-no/edit?gid=0#gid=0 |
That doesn’t tell us how you get an A in the test. If an A is the same as a 4 then very few kids will get them. |
Right, I was responding to the parent who was concerned about their kid who had "borderline B's" and was worried about the effects of the test on her semester grade. The actual conversion of test performance to test grade remains unknown. |
Can't the HS send out a 'remind' to families once scores are placed somewhere families can see them online? Or is that announcement due for 12:01pm this Thurs? |
The cut scores seem to be more generous this year. I was glancing at a few students’ details with another teacher and the break between a 3 and a 4 seemed to be between 740 & 750 (I didn’t keep track). The letter grades didn’t exactly match cut scores (saw an A for both a low 4 and a high 3). Details will be available soon enough, but I’ve seen enough to tell that the letter grades are generous. |
My DS saw his score and corresponding grade today so it seems at least some schools have this information and are sharing results with students. |
My kid asked his biology teacher today and she laughed and said he'd probably know something before she does. |
My son’s bio teacher shared scores in class today (I can’t find it in ParentVue). He got an A. |
Do you know what the raw score was that translated to the A? |
I’m the OP and my DD is a terrible test taker and an E is a possibility but fingers crossed she got something higher. I guess time will tell since we still don’t know anything |
I have no idea. He said he got an A and that he’s pretty sure they graded on a curve, but an A is an A (though it doesn’t matter for him because he got Bs in Q3 and Q4, so his semester grade is still a B). |
