Teacher told my kid MISA score are posted but they can’t see them. Anyone else see their scores? |
My son got an email from his bio teacher around 6pm saying the scores are posted on Synergy but they are not. I assume it's just a mistake on her end and tomorrow she'll hit publish or something. It happens. |
MCPS high school biology teacher here. The scores were released by MSDE to MCPS. MCPS has not posted them nor are they available to biology teachers yet.
I suspect a lot of the hold up is because MCPS hasn't quite figured out how to put the scores into Synergy (ParentVUE/StudentVUE) yet. I already quipped to my teammates at school today that MCPS will ask us teacher to check another data repository for the scores, then input the grades ourselves, and they'll probably do this to us on Thursday or Friday of this week. I blame MCPS for a lot of things (and I do, I definitely do), but a lot of what you all are blaming them for with regards to MISA doesn't fall under their control. You can blame MSDE for the timing, grading, etc. You can also blame MSDE for the 20%-of-the-second-semester-grade. Knowing they have the scores in their hands already and haven't released them is very frustrating. Knowing they will likely screw up the promised "auto-input" and make up put the grades in and even more frustrating. We have 2.5 days of classes left, and science teachers have a LOT more close-out stuff to take care of than most other teachers (because labs, chemicals and equipment). Dumping this on us at the last minute is just ignorant and trying to contribute to the science teacher shortages. |
Has MSDE or MCPS explained how the score conversions are done? If less than 5% scores 4 as is typical, I can’t imagine they are going to require a 4 to get an A on the exam. |
Thank you to the bio teacher.
I don't think Synergy input is the hold up as there was an entry in the Parent Vue Gradebook screen for the MISA grade -- it was there for about a week and then disappeared. I suspect the scores are terrible and MCPS does not want to hear parents complaining about the impact to kids' grades. They'd prefer for no one to be working so they don't have to listen much less respond. |
Unacceptable. After these many years. My rising middle school kid could probably figure this out for them. Are you hiring middle school students, MCPS? |
As has been SHOUTED on this forum and other places a gazillion times, MSDE is not the one delaying in sending MCPS the scores. But MSDE could be the ones to upload reports "somewhere." Then, MCPS can (hopefully) figure out how to get the same report onto ParentVue in a timely manner. MCPS has even said they receive MCAP reports from MSDE in the "summer." MCPS sends schools the reports in Fall. But MCPS can't seem to (chooses not to??) get their mailings organized to mail MCAP reports to families. In the 21st century. |
Does anyone have a problem with Synergy where you can’t see any test scores. When I go into course history and try to click the test requirements tab nothing shows up. When the scores are posted would I see them there? |
Ding! Ding! Ding! I think we have a winner. |
Are the mailings from MCPS to families done in alphabetical order? |
Thanks for the insider info! I’m so sorry you have to deal with this on top of all your year end responsibilities. |
yes - also saw a spot for MISA grade in for a few days but then it was gone |
If you go into Documents, look for one called "SGGCR Student Grades & Graduation". Scores on high school assessments are there. Of course this document does not come out in any timely way so may or may not have what you need. 3 |
It's never been clear. My guess was that they were going to use a 4 as an A, and count on the fact taht because the kids were actually trying, and the teachers prepping for the test, the scores will go up a bit. If you have A's both quarters, you'll still get the A with a 3. If you have an A/B for the quarters, and get a B on the exam, I think it could tip you. |
