This is in addition to cuts made earlier this spring- I think Frost lost close to a total of 4 positions overall. |
Correct. I heard it they lost 3.6 in the Spring. |
I am hearing from ES specialists (music, art, PE) that many have lost .1 from their allocations, which means that yes, many elementary schools are facing staffing reductions as well. (Specials allocations are based on how many "teaching stations" ie. classes are in the school. The .1 cut means that there will be fewer classes next year.) |
Sometimes a specialist teaches at more than one elementary school. For example, they might teach four days at one school and one school at another, so it is possible that, at the ES level, the same number of classes might be available, but with different teachers. |
| Pyle lost 3.8 so far. One math teacher and one English teacher have been cut and are looking for a place elsewhere. Both of them are great teachers. |
| Is there somewhere that parents can look up lost positions? It is frustrating that central office is not transparent about it |
Central Office will not take accountability for specific positions. They will remind everyone that principals decided which positions were cut due to the decreased allocations. |
Who can we lay pressure on? |
I don’t think Pyle lost an English teacher. At least, I don’t think one has been told to find a placement elsewhere. |
| I heard Parkland MS is just not going to fill the open positions they had posted in Careers. So no teachers leaving per se, but it will affect class sizes, scehedule, etc |
That seems like a reasonable choice given the circumstances. |
Unfortunately, you’re wrong. It’s one of the sixth grade English teachers. The only male one if that helps you. |
| Northwest HS lost 4 positions today, including Math and English. |
You don't need to lay pressure on anybody. It will all be in the public budget book after the board votes on the final budget. |
|
My high school has been shuffling sections and existing staffing to absorb the cuts. There were 4 posted positions, not sure if they got absorbed or will still be filled from outside.
I think the bigger schools (HS & MS) are able to do this, especially if they had open positions. |
