Our team is playing significantly down because of some injuries and illnesses. Everyone in our house has been throwing up non stop since Friday. We had hoped my son would be okay to play today but unfortunately not for a morning game. His team got crushed yesterday and probably this morning as well.

I believe they mean playing down against lower teams and winning not your team playing down.

They do it to win and bolster their rankings. It's hilarious when it back fires. I've seen just as many playing way too high as I have way too low, though. Most teams look to have guests playing down on lower teams, though.

Refs did well overall. Kudos.

This is always the worst tournament. Our first game was on Sat at 10am. It was hot and we did not get a water break. The ref was horrible. He was hesitant to make any calls when he did it was after the way and parents were getting really upset.

LOL funny how you always come back for more, was not hot at 10 am, see you in 2025.

I don't see how a first game at 10 am is complaint worthy. That seems pretty normal.

I'm a ref. I saw one ref evaluator out there, but he was specifically looking at the youngster on the crew. I did ask for some feedback.

Feedback is the only way we get better. Sure, parents give feedback, but usually not in an objective and helpful way. And coaches don't know the Laws of the Game, so ...

Did older age groups have a full ref crew for group stage games?

You mean “blow the whistle you f’ing ref, that was a foul” isn’t helpful?

our child is the u15 age group and we had three refs and I thought they called the game well. One water break during each half and it has been a well run tournament.

... ball hits player in the waist ...

"HANDBALL!!!!!!"

Yeesh.

To answer another question -- the upper age groups had three refs. U-11 did not, though they sometimes add them for playoff rounds. Not sure about U-12.

I haaaaate doing U-11 and U-12 without ARs. The parents have a better view of the sidelines and often the imaginary line for offside, and they're not shy about letting you know it. If I was the Flash, I could get to the line and see for myself. I'm not the Flash.

I despise this tournament. Hot has hell. Teams have already gone through tryouts. Down players because of injury. Everyone is done. And then refs are hit or miss. I get that part. Hard to staff.
