OK so you figured it out and don't agree with the teacher. What do you need us for? As I've said before, your kid is probably being disruptive and that's why the teacher asked for it. |
OP isn't packing all of that all at once. I don't think pure fruit/veggie (grapes and apricots, carrot sticks, an apple) snacks stay with them. Can you add something with a bit of protein/fat? A cheese stick? Instead of Ritz crackers, cheese & crackers? A zbar with protein? |
He is in the middle height and weight. Maybe 30-40 percentile for weight? |
+1 Plus if you're in the DMV it is hot. Kids need water. Kids need food. If your teacher says your kid is hungry why are you discounting that? Try sending snacks with protein and fiber. Fruits and veggies are great too but don't keep kids full as long. |
He doesn’t like packed cheese. I packed hummus and was told that’s not allowed. No yogurt or smoothie allowed. Sometimes I pack a granola bar. He usually gets a fruit/veg snack and then another one that’s more hearty like the muffin or bar. I figure he can eat the lighter snack in the morning and heartier in the afternoon. |
I usually send fruit/veg for the morning snack. He eats breakfast at 8 and snack is like an hour later. |
+100 agree. My kids had water bottles and lost so many during elementary. They are now in Jr. High and don't even bother with water bottles. They are not dehydrated. They drink at breakfast, lunch, after school. Once in awhile they bring in a water bottle if they know they have an activity, etc. They still lose about 25% of the time! (by lose I mean they don't bring it home and then find it the next day). This is way less likely with little kids. |
I think this is a YOU issue. 5 water bottles and they all leaked?? Weird. |
Is this about the water or the snack? Why are you going on and on about the food? Just send the correct water bottle. |
Two have straw parts of that over time started leaking. Another had a straw develop a split lengthwise… company sent a replacement in pink unicorn which DS is hesitant to take to school bc he will be teased. A narrow cap Nalgene was vetoed by teacher because no straw. Screw top narrow top Kleen Kanteen also vetoed. One pair of bottles I bought from Costco developed mold. |
^ all from this school year |
FFS there are 4 more weeks of school. Max.
Teacher's lives are impossibly hard. Get over your moral objection to "kids constantly sipping water" and give the poor teacher what she's asking for. |

for leaking you need to make sure the seal in the top is correct and flush. they should be washed after every use. we have 3 or 4 in rotation since they are used daily. once its above 90 I give him 2 water bottles. he walks to and from school, has recess, and PE 2x week. 40oz is the suggestion for fluids from 4-8 years old. With a 16oz Owala, they probably need 2 plus milk 2x6oz and thats for a normal day. Add in heat or activity and it can be more. |
Ooops, trying to get that last link deleted.
Here's the water bottle link: https://a.co/d/3mpENJs |
Half the time the kids cant tell if they are thirsty or hungry so if the water bottle is close, they take a sip and its usually thirst. We use thermos brand metal straw bottles.you need a high protein lunch, they are distracted and dont eat it as fast as they need to. Not for every kid but i make tuna salad and my kid brings it in a little container and puts it on a roll herself (since 1st grade). Make sure there is a good afternoon snack to get through the slog. My kid also discovered she can buy breakfast at school so she has a second one when she gets there. |
