Where did you grow up? I have a hard time as a midwestern American judging portion sizes. For example, how much rice do you serve for a woman? How much bread? Do you always eat dessert? |
Lol |
That’s a good point, I overlooked that when skimming it the first time. I would add a serving of your favorite non starchy vegetable - squash, cauliflower rice, broccoli etc. The other PP who thinks eggs are unhealthy is stuck in the 80s. |
What is your current height, weight and activity level?
Without knowing this upfront, most of the advice so far is meaningless. |
Increase fiber and water intake. |
This is the dumbest comment I have seen yet. Too much food??? It’s all nutrient dense and is a proper amount of calories to lose weight. Why is two eggs not healthy???? What decade are you in? Eggs, particularly the yolks, are filled with nutrients. Egg cholesterol does not increase blood cholesterol. Only saturated fat increases cholesterol. You can eat eggs multiple times per week without additional risks. |
Isn’t that why god invented probiotics? I thought that is the whole point - billions of bacteria colonies in a pill. |
I lost about 15 lbs in that timeframe by sticking to the following menu more or less:
Breakfast: 1 egg + liquid eggs with spinach and low fat cheddar cheese Almond milk latte (unsweetened) Lunch: salad with lettuce, rotisserie chicken and any veggies I have on hand with olive oil and vinegar Snack: high protein yogurt or cottage cheese Dinner: lean protein plus vegetables (e.g., chicken breast and string beans, salmon and asparagus, lean beef and onions/peppers, etc.) Dessert: sugar free jello pudding with cool whip |

Probiotics and fermented foods can be helpful, but there are trillions of beneficial bacteria in your gut that not only plays a major roll in digestion, but also our immune systems, skin health, mental health, weight, hormone levels, and inflammation just to name a few. Scientists are only beginning to realize how much our gut biome effects our health. What they do know though, is that a healthy gut microbiome needs prebiotics or fiber to thrive and produce short chain fatty acids. When you only eat meat for an extended period of time you are essentially starving all those good bacteria. Your body doesn't need their help to break down meat so if you continue to just eat meat you should be fine, but it does need a healthy gut flora to break down everything else. That is why some people develop digestive issues after using antibiotics, usually they can rebuild the balance but when they can't they can develop all sorts of digestive and autoimmune issues. |
Breakfast:
oikos greek yogurt (ideally “pro” with more protein) good culture cottage cheese if still hungry Lunch: OWYN protein shake think keto bar Snack: Another yogurt or cottage cheese Dinner: sweetgreen Yasso bar |
Cut out added sugar/artificial sweeteners. Cut out red meat and add one more fish dish a week and two more vegetarian dishes. Halve your cheese intake. Eat cruciferous veggies every day (kale, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, radishes, cabbage)- roasted with olive oil and garlic at 425 on the lower shelf for 25 minutes ( not the kale or radishes). Limit eggs to one or two a week. Drink black dark roast coffee. No alcohol. Follow an exercise plan. This will reduce the strain on your liver and reduce inflammation all over and you will lose weight. |
I forgot to add in- eat nuts - walnuts, peanut butter, almonds. |
I would recommend Whole30. It’s 30 days not 40, but also provides other benefits and advantages besides weight loss (reduced cravings, improved gut health, better sleep, better energy, etc) while not crushing your metabolism like a low-cal restrictive diet would. |
I eat this and it helped me lose about 15 lbs and now maintain it:
- No breakfast, just black coffee (this isn’t hard for me, because I’ve never liked eating in the morning) - A clementine or some berries, and a piece of toast with a triangle of Laughing Cow cheese or a bit of crème fraiche, smoked salmon, and capers. - Protein (salmon or steak or pork generally, chicken is not my favorite) and vegetables of my choice at dinner. Occasionally pasta because I love it, but I measure the amount and use half zoodles/half noodles. I don’t snack. If I’m hungry between meals, which is rare because I eat at 12 and 6, I have a cup of tea. Eating like this gives me enough leeway to drink a few times a week, which I like to do. You could probably also add a yogurt or egg for breakfast and still be totally fine. |
