The webinar also highlighted the impact of trauma and how that has affected behavior of both Israelis and Palestinians. At least the step taken with a recognition of a Palestinian state moves the region closer to peace. Isn’t that what we all want for the people living in the region?

I also wonder every time someone labels Palestinian groups as terrorists how one sided this label is. Israel has killed and imprisoned many many multiples of Palestinians both through the current war and all through the past. To simply label the groups that step forward in leadership roles for Palestinians as terrorists seems overly simplistic to me.

You don’t think terrorist is an appropriate word for people who celebrate the kidnap, rape, torture, and murder of civilians at music festivals? Surprise, surprise.

And even after what Hamas did on 10/7, it's amazing how Israel still came out looking like the @ssh0les.

For Palestinians everyday is 10/7.

Yes, same perpetrators too - Hamas!

Biden needs to stop supporting Hamas and questioning Israel. The Israelis will need a lot of money to rebuilding Gaza once the Palestinians are gone.

The Palestinians aren’t going anywhere. The Israelis have tried for 76 years to eliminate them but it hasn’t worked. Too bad for you!

Probably not but since a large number of them are the descendants of the original Jewish population that was later forcibly converted to Islam, perhaps they can return to all their roots!

At some point Israel will have to stop the land grab in the West Bank, or tell the world what kind of border they need to stop taking more land
Netanyahu is too extreme

They will never stop taking more land. They believe themselves divinely entitled to the entire region. Palestine is only the first stage.

Religious ideology cannot be used to justify the land grab.
We are divinely required to not steal or murder and be kind to every person who has been created by that said creator, assuming such a divinity even exists

Netanyahu will reject this because he does not have Israel's best interests at heart.

Can the pro-Israel and pro-Palestine zealots take your obsessive, immature bickering to one of the endless Gaza threads? It's impossible to have a normal discussion on this topic without you keyboard warriors trying to constantly play gotcha with each other. The rest of us who don't live and breath this stuff want to try to understand the issues without your childish background noise.

The US policy for decades has been for a two-state solution.

No US policy for years has been appeasement, active support of the apartheid state and unconditional support of Israel. The US has actively worked against a two state solution for decades, aid the settlement movement in every way and supply cover for Israel. When the terror that is Israel breaks through the US media the hollow words of “right to defend itself” by killing civilians and a “two state solution”* are mumbled in to a mic.

*some time in the distance future, only if Israel allows it and all the Palestinians are dead.

Can you show even one instance when the US pressured Israel in anything more than a performative manner? US policy is to pretend we are for two states while giving Israel military and diplomatic cover to do whatever it wants

Are people here that stupid not to understand that Palestinians will never accept any two-state solution? They will never stop until there is no Isreal.

DP

This exchange pretty much reflects the essence of this conflict perfectly.

PP posts something completely reasonable and balanced, and frankly a little bit hopeful for the future.

Then along comes the miserable Zionist with the “focus on us!” tantrum that refuses to acknowledge the massively disproportionate role of Israeli terrorism in the region.

Thank god this nightmare of catering to you weirdos is coming to an end (albeit not soon enough).

EVERY country should recognize a country for Palestinians. Most nations did it for Israel. It stands to reason that every population group should have the right to their own nation.

Countries who do not recognize Israel and/or Palestine are the lowest of the low. Shame on them!

You're asking for people to speak less passionately about a genocide you haven't bothered to pay attention to and now want to understand, while calling those who have been paying attention childish. 🤔

What's a name for someone who blissfully goes about their life while people a mass slaughter happens?

Why should they accept a two state solution. It was theirs and it was stolen from them by the West. For nearly 80 years they've been second class citizens in their own homeland, and systematically cleansed, while the West has labeled THEM, the people fighting their oppressors, the terrorists.

If someone came and violently expelled you and your neighbors from your homes, stole your property, and coraled you all into ghettos, would you simply accept the new order of things?

You all are expecting the Palestinians to act in ways that go against every fiber of human survival instinct in service of Western imperialism.

Kick everyone out of the area. No one deserves it.

Religion is such a cancer.
