So people who vote Republican are spiteful jerks?

Wow, nice demonstration of your intellectual curiosity there.

Are there any interesting answers?

Not on this thread, there won't be. You get what you give.

Seriously. If you are interested in how people on the opposite aisle think and operate, then ask good faith questions instead of…whatever this post was.

I’m not as interested in what they think, which is obvious, but why they think that way. How did they end up so broken?

Is there a chance that your understanding of what they think might be wrong?

I’m assuming their thoughts reflect their words. No?

Should I assume that your words reflect your thoughts and those of other Democrats or liberals? I certainly hear a lot of similar words from other liberals or Democrats.

Pro tip: the words do not reflect well upon you.

Is this better: how the far-right elite pushes lies to encourage working class people to be spiteful jerks?

I like guns and hate big government simple as

What specifically do you not like about big goverment? What aspect of government would you like to see reduced or what specific programs would you like to see eliminated? Just to say "I don't like big government" doesn't really answer the question.

On guns, are you good with mentally ill and former felons obtaining guns, or should there be some aspect of control? For law abiding people such as yourself, there are basically no limits on guns and no serious proposals to limit your right to own and operate guns.

Listened to an interview with Batya the other day. I think her book is spot on.

I am not a Republican, I am independent. I grew up upper middle class but have recent enough working class roots to understand why people have embraced Trump and populism. These people do not want to be the beneficiaries of government redistribution largesse. They want dignity of work and the ability to build a stable and comfortable life. The whole working class has been undermined by both parties, who are more interested in keeping labor costs low for the benefit of big business.

Jews will not replace us
A women, even a rape or incest victim, should carry a baby to term
A women should carry a dead fetus to term, even if she might die
Companies should be able to pollute the air we breathe and water we drink without repurcussion
Companies should be able to exploit workers and even child labor, to their hearts content

These are good policies?

Every day I see Republicans:
- crapping on our schools, actively trying to harm them.

- gleefully making racist comments.

- trying to push their religious beliefs on others.

- despising people who weren’t lucky enough to be born into wealth/privilege.

And the list goes on.

How did they become so awful? I seriously just don’t get it.

Except they are the beneficiaries.
OSHA regulations make their workplace safe.
Minimum wage ensures they are not totally exploited.
They drive on roads to get to their work. The safety of the cars and roads are regulated by the government.
The food they eat is inspected with minimum safety standards to ensure they don't get sick.
They went to a school that had minimum standards to ensure they learned the basics.

What is the largesse? The raping of the treasury by big business?

I’ll bite. Not PP. I think that the federal government has gone way too far in what the Constitution outlines its role to be. For example, I don’t believe we should be using federal tax dollars for a department of education or for NPR. I believe abortion should be decided at the state level, not national. I believe Roe vs Wade was rightfully overturned. I think the federal government has no role to play when it comes to who should access which bathrooms. Leave it to the states.

I believe in some forms of gun control that fortunately already exist. For example, 18 U.S.C. § 922(d): it is unlawful for any person to sell or otherwise dispose of any firearm or ammunition to any person knowing or having reasonable cause to believe that such person “has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution.” Yay!

If you don’t get it and want to get it, then ask real questions. Don’t be snarky and say things like “how did they end up so broken” which will provide you with exactly zero input.

What is the right question to understand why someone is a Republican in 2024?
