I don’t get it. How did they get so broken that they want to hurt others so much? |
They believe the world is a zero sum game. They see the social safety net as taking from them to give to those less worthy. They think if they support policies that benefit the rich, then they will become rich (somehow -- not sure how). And they hate women and minorities, maybe not consciously, but they do. |
Why phrase it like that if you want actually interesting answers and dialogue? |
Just to piss you off |
Are there any interesting answers? |
Why ask if you don’t think so? |
Not on this thread, there won't be. You get what you give. |
If you’re genuinely interested in the topic, I’d suggest giving this book a read. I think it will provide some insights. Though I’m not certain you are actually interested in learning about people who think differently than yourself, but I could be wrong.

Seriously. If you are interested in how people on the opposite aisle think and operate, then ask good faith questions instead of…whatever this post was. |
An opportunity to feel smugly superior to others, based on who they choose to vote for. |
Most people's political leanings are shaped by their family. Some grow up in left-leaning families and some in right-leaning ones. Same with religion. Notice I said "most." Everyone else comes to their beliefs through life experiences. |

So people who vote Republican are spiteful jerks? |
This. My parents are both staunchly Republican, as were both sets of grandparents. But they are old-school Republicans who cant seem to accept how the party has changed, and so they still stubbornly vote Republican, because it is what they've always done. My dad fell down the FoxNews rabbit hole and believes everything they say. My mom can't stand Trump and was shocked by the overturning of Roe, so I'm not sure what she's going to do in the upcoming election. She adamantly refuses to vote for a Democrat, though. I was raised as a Republican...but I was also raised to not be a bigot, to believe in my full rights and abilities as a woman, and to stand up for those in need. Needless to say, I no longer vote for Republican candidates. I have a hard time reconciling my parents as their beliefs are now with the how those same parents raised me. It is like a switch flipped in them after retirement. |
I’m not as interested in what they think, which is obvious, but why they think that way. How did they end up so broken? |
