What an idiotic answer. Booze has a ton of empty calories. Of course drinking affects weight. Duh. |
Sugar is just as poisonous as alcohol. I use both, in moderation--well, the sugar not so moderately lately, so this isn't judgment, just fact. |
Op. Yes. I think my slow weight gain over the last 4 years has mostly been from alcohol. I started drinking a lot more in 2020 and maybe not every night but 3 bottles on the weekend MUST be a lot of calories, right? I cut out those calories and didn’t replace them at night when I’d normally drink but I also haven’t made an effort to cut down on other sugar I’m consuming. |
I think alcohol is an actual poison- it’s a carcinogen. Not sure sugar is that same level but it is bad for you. |
In the same time frame since December 31, I've lost more than 20 lbs. I controlled my diet to about 1500 calories a day, increased exercise, and all but eliminated sweets and alcohol. Calories in < calories out. It's that simple. If you're actually serious about losing weight, you should start by fixing your caloric intake. This will require you to drastically reduce your sugar intake. When you have a calorie budget, can either chose to A) burn through your budget by eating highly caloric sweets and feel hungry as a result, or B) spend your budget on high quality carbs and protein and eat moderately sweet things like fruit and feel full as a result. |
Losing weight from stopping alcohol i think is highly dependent on how much you're drinking and how much you weigh? were you drinking two 6 packs of beer a night or something? Then yeah I would expect a drastic weight loss. If all you gave up was a couple glasses of wine three nights a week and replaced it with dessert why would you expect to lose weight? |
I know. I didn’t really replace it with food. When I drank it was into the night. But I stop eating (even dessert!) around 5:30 pm. I just haven’t made the effort to reduce the sugar and make that change in addition to dropping alcohol. |
