| Ugh. I am a BF mom and you can pass communicable diseases (like HIV) via BM. I BF everywhere (trains, planes and automobiles, middle of the mall, sitting in restaurants) but I always use a nursing cover, for my comfort as well as those around me. |
|
I BFed for over a year, in many different situations, but that did not give me the right to behave in disgusting and socially unacceptable ways. I really think sometimes when people have kids they lose all perspective about what is appropriate behavior. OP how dare you BF in proximity to strangers when you know you have oversupply issues and stuff like this happens? Why on EARTH should someone else have to be subjected to your bodily fluids?
If this guy wanted to be a real asshole about it, he could have had you arrested. I'm not even kidding. |
My, what a low bar we set these days. |
Lol. That post cracked me up because I just read about that disgusting guy yesterday. She's right; it's not nearly as gross: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/08/03/AR2010080306707.html?hpid=newswell |
| Gross! You definitely should've apologized! My own breast milk grosses me out (esp when people say to taste it to see if it's gone off) so I can't imagine having someone else's squirted on me. Not that it would've been the end of the world but still... |
|
Really? So much outrage. Yes, it's gross. Should she have apologized, yes. But if I were the mom, I might have been too mortified to say anything. I might have just burst into tears at that point. Give the mom a break, she's probably a new mom early on in her breastfeeding adventure with a hungy infant on the train. If she would have let the baby cry, I'm sure people would have been upset about having their commute disturbed by a crying baby.
Hell, if anything gives the guy a good story - You'll never guess what happened to me on the metro... To the OP BFing mom, really, don't feel too bad. Things like this happen. Move on and don't read anymore of the DCUM postings. |
Except that the OP really doesn't seem to be all that bothered by it. She certainly didn't burst into tears and in fact seems to think that her oversupply issues, engorgement, etc. justify putting a complete stranger in a very unpleasant position. I frankly don't even get the feeling that she would do anything differently in the future. This is the essence of someone who thinks their own s**t don't stink. |
And I get the feeling you're imposing your own misanthropy on her. |
|
Give OP a break...so a few drops of her milk landed on his ARM...what is the big fat fucking deal????
As for the notion that HIV can be transmitted via breastmilk, I have never, once, heard of a mom with HIV breastfeeding her child. Have you? Nor have I ever heard of someone being infected via a stranger's breastmilk. That's absolutely ludicrous. It's just not something I would ever worry about. And if poor OP's infant had been screaming with hunger on the train, you'd all be bitching about it. You are the gross ones. |
Oh, right, she just came on DCUM to abjectly apologize in front of the entire community.... |
| Lowest post ever. Congrats, Trollerina. |
|
I think OP learned something by this incident and will probably do things differently in crowded places. Sh*t happens.
Now let's all move on. |
I believe the point was that bodily fluids can transmit infection... duh. |
| LOL u kidding rite? what kind of infection have you heard were transmited by BM? |
| and to the posters abt HIV recent research has shown that children of HIV+ moms who r breastfed by their moms have lesser chances to contract the virus and develop AIDS later in life. |
