Almost the opposite at our DC private. The only kids who got in ED were arm/first gen/reasonable stats.

Same

The point is not to leave it to RD (which also means avoid SCEA).

Assuming Princeton was SCEA and there was no ED2, you were very lucky to get into Georgetown. Things could have been much worse. That’s why you avoid SCEA and have an ED1 and an ED2.

It worked out fine. Got into some of the VA state schools EA plus some others just outside the top 25 so it wasn't too stressful. But I agree that you should choose ED1 and ED2 (if you have a clear #2) wisely.

Private nyc high school with decent % of full ride kids. Thus kids with parents who were low income, urm, first gen or some combo - but also had enough social capital to even know what Trinity (equivalent) is, that a ton of FA is available, and present a story in app that said private school wanted to hear.

Those same kids also know about summer programs etc. and those same kids got questbridge, posse, Oliver, teak, etc and used that to get into HYPM early decision.

Then we have super super rich. Or super rich plus legacy. All HYPSM early decision, SCEA .

A couple athletes ED.

And that’s all who got in ED or SCEA

The regular very smart kids with great GPA and EC got in RD. Plenty of them.

Depends on the school, Umich is the easiest while Stanford the hardest

But what if no clear #2?

Anonymous wrote:What type of candidates get into these schools firing RD? In your experience over the last 2 cycles?

Any specific examples (schools/stats)? Are they all “top 3 in class” type of kids which is what I’m gathering?

Depends on your school. In a large competitive school with lots of high achievers, top 1% have a chance, so let's say 10 kids out of a graduating class of 1,000, sometimes up to 15 would make into T 25 schools. In a smaller class of 200 , top 1% would be 2 kids, sometimes 0-4 would get in. From a poor performing urban or rural school, may be 2-3% would make it, even if they are less competitive than larger school grads but came over adversity, are URM or stand out among school's low performing cohort.

Obviously, athletic stars always have a higher chance than academic stars.

If its a top private, you'll have some legacies and donors on top of academic or athletic or adversity admits.

What about a top private?
What % of the class going to a top 25 is deemed an “amazing year” ?
What about T35?

One of mine got into a T25 without doing an interview and got significant merit scholarship so you never know. Academic superstar and dedicated ECs but were shunned by 5/5 ivies they applied to.
