Former boss trying to figure out where I went after I quit

I doubt blocking him will help. If he uses incognito or even just a different computer that he has never logged in from he should be able to view your profile details from the Google search page. I suppose if he is really crazy he could even create a new LI profile to view your from.

You can block you LI from being searchable. Just don't update it or delete it anyway. Problem solved.

Op here. I don’t have a non-compete. We both work in government.

Op here. I agree. I don’t have any other social media. My friends at my old job even acknowledge that he is being weirdly persistent about it. My friends genuinely have no information about what I’m doing next so they aren’t being coy but he keeps bringing it up.

Why is he so obsessed? Would he really try to sabotage my career? Would it work? I obviously don’t intend to use him as a reference. He and I left on bad terms but I thought I was on relatively good terms with the organization as a whole.

You both are nuts. I have two staff who quit and did not tell me where going. If bored on LinkedIn will check to see where they went.

But I am in hidden mode. I like them both. But one claimed a really big raise and if so I want to joint him!

Have a letter drafted by an attorney to HR at old company.

Op here. It’s the fact that he views my profile every single day for weeks. Do you look up your ex employees every single day? Do you ask people at your job over and over again if they know where your ex employees went?

I’m not talking about one or two views on LinkedIn. This is every day. Even weekends! Like why do I take up so much space in this guy’s brain?

Op here. Well I’m an attorney and this guy is also an attorney so I don’t think it would really phase him. But what would it even say?

Just ignore it as best you can. Stay inactive on LI and other social media and work on getting your next job. Once you do, just continue to ignore LI and give his obsession time to die down.

So block him. I blocked my old boss and everyone in my old dept when I left a job with bad blood.

They don’t get notified when blocked at all. You just don’t appear when they look

Op here. It sucks but I do feel like it has some level of utility for networking kinds of things. I plan to update it soon but was hoping to have landed something new before indicating I left my old role.

I hope you'll rethink this, OP. I would NOT update your Linked In soon. Wait a long while. No need to do this soon if you're starting a new job.

I don't use Linked In and it hasn't affected my employment.

He could be just opening your profile page instead of the landing page because he looked you up once and now it is saved in his browser. .

Pretty sure most bosses/colleagues check LinkedIn to see where people land unless you tell them on your way out the door.

That’s not stalking. It’s just business.

Yea, he might have it open in a window but just left it there

Yes, maybe a phone app is refreshing every time he gets into the phone.

Maybe he is also looking for a job.
