Can anyone please explain the mindset of parents who allow “failure to launch”?

You need to STFU and MYOB.

My brother is one of these people. Has has pretty bad anxiety. My mom is a doormat that never forces things. My dad tries but then it becomes a point of contention between the two of them. He at least helps them at home. He doesn’t have a license so that’s one less thing to worry about. It’s frustrating but also incredibly sad. My brother would be homeless otherwise.

The people I know like this have low IQ, schizophrenia, serious abuse in childhood…. And they are good people.

That’s some reasons why.

What do they each gain from this? Why doesn’t he want to launch? Why do they finance his lifestyle?

Why is that your problem?

If you are so concerned and know what they should do why don’t you ask them.

So long as you're getting them the psychiatric treatment they need, yes

Is he risking homelessness just because of anxiety? There are meds for that. Perhaps he has more issues.

You can't force an adult to get the psychiatric treatment they may need.

21 is still young. There could be many reasons, none of which should be judged by an outsider.

This is very true. But you can say, unless you meet with a psychiatrist/therapist on a regular schedule and take the meds they prescribe, you can't live here.

+1. Maybe he's taking online college classes. You just don't know.

Throwing your kids out to live on the streets is one of the most brutal and difficult things parents could ever do. Why are we even talking about this here? Whoever wrote this clearly has no understanding of the issues involved, this is like talking to a five year old

OP. I understand. If you haven't lived around much dysfunction you don't understand how prevalent dysfunction addiction and mental health issues are.
