Golden Globes 2024 -- Fashion/Beauty only thread

Robbie looks amazing. Dresses with that kind of severe geometry at the bust can look horrific or create skin spillage even on the skinny - Meghan Markle wore a Herrera with that kind of severity once and it was so bad. The fit on Margot Robbie couldn’t have been done any better. I like the humor of riding tnat Barbie pink to the bitter end.

I think the fashion is really terrible at this show. I'll post some favorites eventually but mostly I'm going to post what look like fails for me. The two themes I see so far are:

- Uninspired neutrals. So much beige. Also, just an FYI, shiny beige is just shiny beige.
- Horrible fits. Like so bad I checked to see if there was some kind of seamstress strike going on. And on very high profile stars. Totally insane to see fitting errors on people like Margot Robbie and Quinta Brunson at such a high profile event.

OMG Taylor Swift's dress fit horribly. I think that cut-out back, cut-out side, and low front just doesn't work mathematically. She was beautiful though. I loved the green but felt bad for all the swifties who wanted to her show up in Rep TV black.

I love ayo ederabi and this color is great on her. But again, the fit seems a bit off?

Correcting the last name!

She looks phenomenal in hot pink. I love people wearing color and this really does look great on her.

If it were a paint chip, they'd just call it "Nothing" or "Blank. The length is upsetting. Why? Just take it to the floor, it's a formal event. But then on top of that horrifying hem length, the fit seems off? Not as bad as a few other examples, but the puckering around her midsection can't just be about the fabric and her posture (she always stands like that, and she's not that slouched). I feel like maybe in getting the bodice to fit perfectly (which it does), it throws off the rest of the dress and maybe indicates that this was just the wrong pull for her generally. The neckline is nice on her but the rest is just not.

I like the color on her -- with her dark skin she can pull off this shade of pale gold. In general, I hate it when all the pale skinned women wear those washed out neutrals -- it looks so bad on them. (I'm a pale skinned white woman, and I know not to wear pale beige!). I love the top of the dress, but I agree that the midsection fit seems off -- I'm also not crazy about how the trimming thing widens as it goes down.

I think it's the color of the pants. Beige strikes again! I'm imagining this with a really rich navy for the pants and I think it's better.

This is not good. I'm all for women wearing pants and wearing comfy clothes, but this just doesn't look good in any way. I hate the pants -- color, fit, length, everything. The jacket is a nice color but looks like it's so tight around her neck.

I like Debicki's necklaces and Stones hairstyle. Stones shoes are boring AF.

Love these dresses but they both look like they are just sliding off them. I would hike them each up by an inch or two.

The Natalie Portman dress is gorgeous, but it looks like it's been put on a paper doll that was supposed to be an all-purpose look (dress her as a supreme court justice, or a flight attendant, or in workout clothes, or going to an awards show...).
I'll give her a pass though since she's having a shitty year.

Angela Bassett looks amazing. How is she 65?!?

I just don’t like dresses cut this low but otherwise it’s nice. I wish I could see her eyes better, her bangs are so long.

Obviously her skin is amazing but also notice that she’s not rail thin, she’s got curves and some fat and that’s a big part of looking younger sometimes.

I love this color on her and her hair looked really beautiful from the back. Agree with the PP who said this is another fit fail-- a dress in this fabric should move beautifully but this one didn't because the cutouts and tailoring created all this weird bulging and puckering. Disappointing.

I see what you are saying but these both moved great on the red carpet. Especially Debicki's. That low neckline with the layered necklaces really emphasizes her height and the length of her neck. I like it when tall women really lean into it and embrace it, like Cate Blanchett or Tilda Swinton. This look is very "willowy Amazon" and I liked it.

To me the issue with the color isn't that it's unflattering in her. It's just boring. I think it would bother me more if there hadn't been so much of it on the red carpet. This is a big event, it's a chance to make a statement. This dress doesn't.
