It's based on the Naviance scattergrams. It's an odd case when someone with a 3.4 from FCPS does not get into JMU. I'm sure that doesn't make you feel better. But, it's statistically true.

That makes perfect sense. The average GPA would have to be ABOVE the "cut line" on Naviance! You can argue with it all you want, but Naviance shows a dividing line (not literally a line that they create, but one that you can see by looking at the chart) -- the vast, vast majority of those those who apply with a 3.3-3.4 GPA get in.

The average GPA for GMU is quite high too. But, if you have a 3.0-3.1, you are very very very likely getting into GMU. Yes, we know, you know a kid somewhere who had a 3.4 who didn't get it. There are a FEW (very few) exceptions. But, looking at the data -- an applicant with a 3.0-3.1 or higher is going to get into GMU.

One high school is not statistically significant.

Your data point = 1. My data point = 200.
It has around 200 data points...it's pretty good sample of where the cut line runs for gpa.

Sure there are a few rejections in the otherwise green mass above a 3.3 gpa. But they are the exception. In the vadt majority of cases, kids with a 3.3/3.4 get into jmu.

There is a lot of Virginia past the Woodbridge Ikea. A lot of great students. Virginia ranks fourth nationally in K-12 education. I'm elsewhere in the state. These kids are working just as hard as your kids in NOVA, if not harder.

If the bottom 25% starts at 3.41...well that would be consistent with a chart showing that those with gpa's under 3.3 usually do not get accepted.

Did your kid take any IB’s, AP’s or DE’s? We just toured and the admissions talked stated they were looking for students with A and B’s and academic rigor via the three advance classes above(if/which ever your school offered them- if your school didn’t, they would have a way of knowing what rigor from your school would be comparable).

It makes sense that as W&M, UVA, and VA Tech get harder and harder to get into, JMU would start to have higher stat kids interested.
