Theft Targets are shutting down

I don't know why so many of you are obsessed with pretending the criminal class doesn't exist.

This. It's not just Target either.

Looks like a lot of retailers are trying to save face and sell real estate without their stock price tanking.

Yep, it’s largely been debunked that all of these closures are due to thefts. Commercial landlords are revealing some of these occupants balked at higher rents and on some cases were already behind.

I doubt theft is the only factor. It's probably also true that to do business in a city, you have to pay higher wages, rents, etc AND turn a profit. This is harder to do when there's also rampant crime.

I don't believe the "crime is down!" propaganda. No, if police literally say not to call unless there is an ongoing threat of violence, then people won't call. I work in a high crime area and people don't even bother making police reports when their windows get smashed in, etc. The absence of reports does not equal a reduction in crime.

Target sells groceries…where have you been for the last 10+ years?

Um are they going to come clean in their earnings calls or just continue to lie to everyone including shareholders?

They are too emotionally invested in their yard signs and terrified of being called racist if they acknowledge that crime occurs more frequently now than it did a few years ago. I would also point out that if your expectations and tolerances for behavior for the one group of people is different for another group of people - and the defining characteristic of those groups are race - then you are STILL a racist. Because being overly tolerant based on race, is also racism.

Good. I hate target.

Businesses are using “inflation” and “crime” to cover business losses that result from poor decisions and/or opportunistic moves to raise stock or profits. It doesn’t mean that inflation and crime don’t exist but it’s an easier cover.

Target strategically over bought (hoarded) inventory to guard against shortages and higher prices. This resulted in a glut of inventory and forced admission to shareholders about the losses this resulted in stock going down.

They are coming clean with earnings, they just use theft as an excuse when it isn't any worse than preCovid.

It's not the theft that's causing a problem, it's that the middle and lower classes can't afford to buy as much anymore. P

I actually like Target, and they aren't the only ones doing this. Many large chain pharmacies are doing the same exact thing.

Haven't you been hearing all these echos of "theft" all summer?

So if they let some of that excess get stolen, do they recover the over cost through insurance?

I witnessed a gang clean out the Palisades CVS. Don't pretend this isn't happening.

we had two years of skyrocketing inflation and rampant crime. What a surprise it affected businesses.
