When is the first year MV kids aren't "guaranteed" DCI access?

Note, it says "in the language tracks in which they are enrolled". So that means the Chinese and French schools don't give spots to extra MV graduates.

Also: "DCI has sibling preference within DCI, as well as with the following member schools: DC Bilingual, LAMB, Mundo Verde, and Yu Ying. Sibling preference can only be approved for siblings in the same language track."

So that seems like if there's too many MV kids for the allocation, those who are DCI siblings would have preference for the empty seats.

There is no way to read the words on the page (I quoted them above) and come to your conclusion. It is black and white; outside kids (which includes sibs) are offered seats only after all feeder kids are offered seats in their language. That means that even if MV exceeds their allocated seats, if there are open Spanish seats they will be filled by MV (or other Spanish feeder kids) before any outside kids (including sibs) are enrolled. This isn't an opinion question.

Uh you're kinda rude. I meant that *within the MV or other Spanish feeder kids who didn't get in initially based on their lottery numbers*, sibling preference would determine the waitlist placement.

Sibling preference (enrolled/offered/etc.) determines the order in which kids are offered seats on the initial lottery allocation. That is shown on the WL data page. Scroll down and it shows offers by category. Again, none of this is subject to DCUM interpretive dance and opinion. All there in black and white on the page.

Not rude. Just sick and tired of drama mammas and daddies acting like this is all so hard.

Okay dear, you're not rude at all. It's funny how DCI and MV are constantly saying inconsistent things about sibling preference at in-person events, but whatever.

I notice this doesn't say anything about sibling preference within the feeder school preference. And I see that on the waitlist data page it reports how many matched students were siblings and how many were not, but does that indicate a ranked preference or is that more just a description of the data set?

https://www.mundoverdepcs.org/dci-school-preference

Transfer Preference
All Mundo Verde 5th grade students will continue to be eligible for a transfer preference.

If there are more students interested in transferring to DC International than we have spaces, the spaces will be assigned via lottery among the Mundo Verde students with preference (still using MySchoolDC platform).

We estimate having 130 5th grade graduates interested in transfer spaces - resulting in a 60 percent chance of being offered a space at DC International.

Are there really 130 5th graders at MV this year though? I thought they had reduced the number of fifth grade classes.

I suspect that's what they were targeting when they wrote this document. We'll know when the enrollment audit data is posted, or when a MV parent tells us.

I don't really understand how it could be a 60% chance for everyone-- if there's sibling preference, then it's 100% chance for siblings and a much less good chance for non-siblings, producing an overall rate of 60%, right? Perhaps our Totally Not Rude friend can enlighten all us drama mamas and daddies.

Does anyone know why Stokes doesn’t receive a sibling preference? It seems odd and unfair that it isn’t consistent across the board.

Stokes has been talking about starting their own middle school EOTR. How such a small school can do that is a mystery.

Or it could be just a mistake in the text of the website.

Each school has its own lottery results for DCI. Within those results is data within preference categories.

Do you see any irony of using a patently rude and condescending phrase like the bolded while accusing someone else of being rude?

But IMMERSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Says someone that has no idea about the brain benefits of bilingual education.

To summarize: Someone commented on how bad the PARCC scores were. Another poster sarcastically replied to scream IMMERSION as a joke about people who are willing to write off and ignore academic failures in the name of immersion. To which you replied...that immersion is so special and important that people should write off and ignore academic failures in the name of immersion.

If that was comedy....No notes.

The funny part is that these scores are still higher than the DCPS average.

They're godawful relative to demographics, obviously.

Call the school and ask? It is clear that DCUM doesn't know.

I called and asked last fall.

My children were both at a feeder, and older child got a spot at BASIS. One (of many) factors was if this would impact younger child's likelihood of getting into DCI (older child was in a class guaranteed a spot, younger child was not, but if older child turned down BASIS and went to DCI, younger child could have both Feeder + Sibling preference if that was a thing). The lovely people I spoke with (I called two separate times) said: "DCI has not yet decided how it would handle this situation." I realize that is not a satisfying answer, but I do think that part of the reason for the confusion and uncertainty, is that there is not yet a decision as to how this will be addressed.
