It took me years of parenting to realize what I considered minimal, bare bones parenting responsibilities, other parents found to be optional or unnecessary. It was eye opening. |
Did you read the article? Dad put the kids to bed, Mom checked on them when she got home later in the night from work, and when Mom woke up the next day, she went to the backyard and realized the twins weren't there. Dad should've figured out what happened earlier in the morning (or at least realized the twins were missing). |
Yes, sleep training means ignoring your kids while they suffocate to death
|
My brother and I did this when we were 5. Mom rescued us. |
Their GoFundMe has already raised $20,000. |
Read before you post? There was no screaming, because according to the story, they fell asleep. |
The real Amish cedar hope chests are meant to be completely air tight and not have any cracks or spaces at all (so moisture and moths can’t get in to your heirlooms) in addition to being really dense and heavy so I’m guessing they are pretty soundproof. And you’d lose consciousness from lack of oxygen pretty quickly since they are airtight. |
Yes, I have no trouble believing this was a tragic accident. |
I mean, I don't check on my toddler during nap or use a monitor. He's asleep and I'm nearby. That said, that is why the dressers in the kids room are secured to the wall. |
| The news story suggests that the kids got up in the night frequently to play with one another. If that's the case, the parents should have made sure the room was completely babyproofed. But it wouldn't be surprising that busy parents with two older kids assumed 4yos weren't at huge risk in their own bedrooms. It's a horrible tragedy, and I'm not a fan of GoFundMes in general. But it's good that they're talking about it, maybe it will make another family look twice at their babyproofing. |
There’s nothing in the article that says it’s an Amish hope chest. And wood is not sound proof. |
She calls it an “old wooden cedar chest.” These have been known for years to be unsafe for kids unless the lock is taken out. We got an antique one to put in our foyer for backpacks etc. when our kids were little and knocked the lock out immediately. This has been a known safety issue for years. https://www.cpsc.gov/Newsroom/News-Releases/2018/CPSC-Urges-Consumers-to-Replace-or-Remove-Latches-Locks-on-Lane-and-Virginia-Maid-Cedar-Chests-14-Deaths-Reported |
| The kids kicked in their dream and closed the box? Yeah right. Charges probably coming soon. This is totally unbelievable that 2 four year olds would snuggle up and sleep quietly together in a small uncomfortable box. |
So not an Amish cedar chest and not a sound proof box? |
I agree. There’s more to this story. Let’s wait and see. |
