| I think all the great songs have been written and she’s out of combinations to write a classic. She’s stuck with too few musical notes to do it. |
Some truth to that. There are not prolific and abundant classics recently. |
|
She doesn’t even have a Gwen Stefani “don’t speak” level of quality hit. |

OP I haven't heard of like half of those songs, they are not "iconic".
That said, that silly screen door slamming song by Taylor Swift still plays in heavy rotation on the radio, same as Shake It Off, so, pretty sure that in 40 years people will still vaguely remember them the way they vaguely remember some of the songs on your list. |
| I think "we are never ever ever ever, getting back together" is iconic. I love how on one chorus verse she adds an extra "ever". A quadruple never ever, it's unprecedented! |
|
She has so many great songs that one will never stand out in her catalogue. Too much competition.

Swift doesn't write ear worms. Even her catchiest songs just don't have that epic "song of the year" quality. I say that as someone who likes her music a decent amount and thinks she has a handful of really great songs, most recently Anti-hero. But somewhat surprisingly for someone who has a ton of cross-over appeal (not just country to pop as she made that transition, but has also worked with artists like Kendrick Lamar and others from rap/R&B backgrounds), her music just doesn't have that kind of universality. She writes music for a specific audience. That audience LOVES her and is large and devoted. But people outside her fan base are indifferent. Her music just doesn't hit. It's a bunch of factors.
I don't actually think it undermines her legacy as an artist. She will just have a more nice legacy. That's okay! |
She should hire somebody secretly to write one for her. |
| ^^^ maybe she can talk Dolly into writing her a classic. |
| I probably respect her more for not falling into the traps of expectations. Who says she needs to do anything other than what she’s doing? Seems to be working out so far for her. |
| Love Story? You Belong With Me? Trouble? Shake It Off? |
Billy Joel is a moron. |
