So… fluff and slogans like:

“Defund the Police”
“Build Back Better”
“Black Lives Matter”
“Intersectionality”
“Lived truth”
“No Human is Illegal”
“Check Your Privilege”
“ACAB”
“Smash the Patriarchy”
… and so many more? Like those?

I don't think a majority of scientists embrace all those slogans.

They also don't embrace "Trust THE Science" but that ain't stopping you.

Say what you will about a specific brand of silly progressivism (and I'll hold my tongue about the equally numerous and considerably more absurd fluff and slogans from Republicans) but Democrats actually get things done. The most recent significant piece of Republican-led legislation that wasn't a tax cut was probably 20 years ago the Medicare Modernization Act. It shouldn't be shocking that educated people are increasingly choosing to refrain from voting for a party whose central planks are culture war claptrap and tax cuts for people who don't need them.

Oh dear, a reasoned and sound argument on DCUM.
I like it, but don’t count on it making any difference to the MAGA trolls on here.

Many used to vote GOP until the GOP stopped being interested in science. The scientist I know started pulling away from the republican party in the 1990s, when they really started being anti science and pro evangelical.

The GOP gets what it gets when they pander to a whole bunch of evangelicals and people who "don't believe" in vaccines and science.

Dem here. Can we separate the hard sciences from the rest (and that includes fields like economics and psychology). Many of these non-hard science fields experience "physics envy" and have suffered replicability issues. It's here where many of the culture war or bad policy decisions have developed. Both areas overwhelmingly reject the GOP but its the latter that has less of an objective basis to stand on.

Conservatism is ultimately simplistic slogans that aren't borne out by real world research (i.e. climate change is not human-caused, gun control doesn't work because only criminals will have guns etc.) There's no need for science to give "equal time" to such nonsense or to have affirmative action for conservatives.

Take Fauci for example. He's actually on the more conservative side when it comes to Covid, but conservatives insist he's a Covid-zero fanatic or implementing a "far-left" agenda.

Do you have a citation for your claims or did you just dream them up?

DP, but look at the voting patterns of people with college degrees over time - educated people are increasingly voting for Democrats, while Republicans are increasingly the party of the uneducated. It doesn't take a brain genius to connect the dots to the parties' respective policy positions.

Let's be accurate here.
College educated people are voting more for Democrats.
Non-college educated are more for Republicans.

These people are NOT uneducated. In fact, I would say that many of them are more educated than the typical college graduate. They just don't have degrees. A college degree does not automatically bestow "education." I have met many people with doctoral degrees that are dumber than a box of rocks.

As to why this is the case...... I would venture to say that the majority of college professors are liberal (a fact). When kids go through 12 years of K-12 schooling (and teachers are predominantly Democrats) and another 4+ years of college, it is unsurprising that they take on the views of those who teach them which are predominantly liberal.

Then, there are exceptions like me and my family. All college educated. All conservative.

We discovered during Covid that liberals really aren't about science. So much of the crap that was pushed on the populace had zero basis in actual science.

Then, we can talk about gender ideology and the "science" behind that.

And, you claim that the GOP is not interested in science? LOL.

+1, anecdotes don't necessarily apply generally. And it's true that reality has a liberal bias, which is why so many conservatives believe in magical thinking.

I see this statement made a lot in both directions. What exactly is meant by it?

It seems silly on it's face.

DP.. that's hysterical.

You think the "not college educated" are in fact, more educated than the typical college graduate? I need a source for this.

You say K-12 schooling makes people liberal, *except* for you and your family. You're special, and so much smarter. ROTFL

I guess all those PhDs can't think for themselves and have been indoctrinated by the K-12 education system.

Actually, the reason why most educated people become liberal as they get more educated is because they think on a macro level, whereas uneducated people tend to live insular lives and don't get out much. Then you have the "I'm college educated" but kinda racist people who remain conservative because that's the political party that will not only accept your racism, but in some cases, see that as a must have to be in the party.

I see, thank you. So it's just another way of saying the GOP lies a lot? (don't have a medium account)

Where did you ever get the idea that David Brooks speaks out for the marginalized class?

He isn't really speaking out for the marginalized.
He is, however, calling out the liberals for their elitist attitudes and snobbish ways.

All on full display in this thread. And, quite a few other threads on this site.
