Antivax doctors being an excellent example.

Let me guess you think "lockdowns" have zero basis in actual science.

People (snowflakes) who spend their lives in their labs and ivory towers are liberal, no surprise. Those who live in the real world may in the early years trend liberal but eventually see the light and become conservative.

Lockdowns were a political decision. Reflexively invoking "the science" to justify such a decision is also...political.

All decisions made by governments are "political decisions." But Republicans tend to ignore sound science and evidence-based policies.

The GOP gets what it gets when they pander to a whole bunch of evangelicals and people who "don't believe" in vaccines and science.

Then, we can talk about gender ideology and the "science" behind that.

And, you claim that the GOP is not interested in science? LOL.

Exactly. When they silenced debate amongst their peers, everyone knew what was going on.

I've seen OP's issue in my own family. In the 80's, my family was middle of the road. My dad was a lifelong Republican and NRA member, my mom was a conservative pro-life Dem. Both have college science degrees -- my dad has a masters. They are both now solid D, in a so-called purple state, because they are just appalled at the Republican science denial and lies. They aren't buying into all the D rhetoric and wouldn't have the slightest clue what "intersectionality" or any of those right wing buzz words are --- but the actual D policies are pretty moderate, whereas the Rs are basically science-deniers who seem to rejoin in cruelty at this point.

I have a sibling who is a hard-core extreme conservative with a PhD in the hard sciences (worked for industry for decades)--he'll never vote D, but even he is disgusted by the current crop of R. He's the kind of R that is very pro-immigration because he thinks they are the only ones willing to do the low-paid work, so hates the Trumpian close the border and defund INS crap. I think he still votes R because it's reflexive for him, but he mocks the dumb R politicians openly.

I actually feel bad for the R party -- they're in a toxic relationship and can't quite figure out how to get out. I have a bunch of scientist relatives that are pro-gun and in favor of low taxes and moderate social policies -- they would totally be convinced to swing R if only the R's could get free of their current rock-hardplace of Trump and the evangelicals. It's going to be like that abused wife that looks up and suddenly realizes that she's lost all her real friends because of her abuser, and that she doesn't even really know who she is anymore. That's the GOP elephant at this point.

Well said. When our children were in kindergarten, all my liberal friends flat out rejected vaccinating their children. But BAM, when Libs are in power and DEMAND vaccinations, they all obliged, no questions asked.

So funny how that works.

Conservatism is ultimately simplistic slogans that aren't borne out by real world research (i.e. climate change is not human-caused, gun control doesn't work because only criminals will have guns etc.) There's no need for science to give "equal time" to such nonsense or to have affirmative action for conservatives.

Take Fauci for example. He's actually on the more conservative side when it comes to Covid, but conservatives insist he's a Covid-zero fanatic or implementing a "far-left" agenda.

Do you have a citation for your claims or did you just dream them up?

DP, but look at the voting patterns of people with college degrees over time - educated people are increasingly voting for Democrats, while Republicans are increasingly the party of the uneducated. It doesn't take a brain genius to connect the dots to the parties' respective policy positions.

Let's be accurate here.
College educated people are voting more for Democrats.
Non-college educated are more for Republicans.

These people are NOT uneducated. In fact, I would say that many of them are more educated than the typical college graduate. They just don't have degrees. A college degree does not automatically bestow "education." I have met many people with doctoral degrees that are dumber than a box of rocks.

As to why this is the case...... I would venture to say that the majority of college professors are liberal (a fact). When kids go through 12 years of K-12 schooling (and teachers are predominantly Democrats) and another 4+ years of college, it is unsurprising that they take on the views of those who teach them which are predominantly liberal.

Then, there are exceptions like me and my family. All college educated. All conservative.

^ Now this is a truly dumb post PP.

NEWS FLASH:

Science DEMANDS debate, ONGOING debate.
It’s almost embarrassing how many Democrats
here don’t know that.

Didn’t they learn any science in school?
Or were their teachers obsessed gender propaganda?

You're wrong. Bending over for teachers unions is "sound science".

Lockdowns impacted the shape of the curve but most likely did not substantially reduce overall COVID deaths. It did ruin the economy and screw up a generation of kids.
