How many colors do you eat in a day?

What other fruits and veggies you recommend? That is a lot of plants, tbh.

I had leftovers for breakfast so that included riced cauliflower and broccoli.

Lunch just now was a salad that included romaine lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes. Also some freeze-dried edamame but I don't really think that counts.

Snack later will be lowfat yogurt with fresh blueberries.

Dinner menu tonight includes corn and tomatoes.

Let me guess, you are middle-aged woman.

PP and yes I am. I don't like breakfast food so usually eat our leftovers from the day before. In each of these meals there was also protein and/or a starch. Breakfast included leftover grilled chicken, for example. Lunch included some salmon and I put some croutons on the salad for crunch. The answer I gave above was only to answer the OP's question about eating the rainbow.

Friday, I ate,
two bananas,
one apple
bowl of cherries
Stew (little bit of beef, carrots, potatoes and onions were in it)
Trout with lemon
Banana bread (wheat, bananas in it.)
I think that is 10 different foods/color?
Is that good?
What about you, how are you doing with different foods/color?

That's a lot of sugar for one day though.

There is effectively zero refined sugar in this list. You are an idiot.

I have between 10-15 colors of veggies /fruit a day.

The "sugar in apples = sugar in starburst" nutjobs always freak out about people eating fruit. I feel so bad for them.

I agree with the PP about the importance of eating 30 different plants per week: https://www.theguthealthdoctor.com/how-to-get-your-gut-loving-30-plant-points-a-week

It's not very hard because it includes spices, seeds, nuts, legumes, etc.

My daily oatmeal has a ton: oats, chia, flax, almonds, walnuts, hemp seeds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, cacao, blueberries, bananas, cinnamon, ginger, turmeric, pepper (15)

Then it's easy to get the rest from various lunches and dinners that easily incorporate vegetables: fish tacos, pasta, chili, soup, etc.

Anonymous wrote:You need green, OP. That's the most important one. FTY when people say "eat the rainbow" they don't count beef or wheat, but the plants.

The colorful plants I ate yesterday:
- watermelon
- big salad for dinner (mixed leafy greens, shallots, corn, cucumbers, carrots, onion, avocado, sweet potatoes).

Why don't they count wheat and meet? Makes no sense to me. Should not count oatmeal?

Because while meat and grains have some value, they don't have nearly the vitamin and mineral benefits that fruits and vegetables have, and most of which can only be found in plants. And yes, green is the most important color to eat. But I might add the colors you get from beans as also valuable (red kidney beans, beige chickpeas, green lima beans, black beans, etc).

What’s weird is that red meat has some of the most nutritional density.

+1
Enjoy fruit and all. But that’s a sugar bomb day.

It’s not weird because the nutrients in meat aren’t related to color in the same way. Substituting beef for tomatoes or vice versa makes zero sense from either a culinary or a nutritional perspective, even if they are both red, nutritious and delicious.

I try to eat a rainbow of plants. I also eat meat. It’s not either or.

You’re doing fine OP but your colors are coming mostly from starchy fruits (apples and bananas) and potatoes. Lemon doesn’t really count. You need leafy greens, cruciferous vegetables, complex carbs (sweet potatoes, lentils).

OP here. There was some sugar in banana bread though. One slice though, so not too much overall.
