My stipulation traveling with ILS?

Definitely offer to have DH drive their car. Being stuck for a week with one car for four adults would be a nightmare.

NP. Really do get over yourself. This comes up all the time, and sorry, but Just No, Boomer. Most DCUM posters have their own money, and in many cases, a lot more money than their parents and ILs. Personally, DH and I pay our share of extended family vacations, but even if someone else is paying, a "free vacation" isn't the prize you think it is. Go into the Search function, type in "beach drama," and you'll see what I mean.

Like, some rental in Sandbridge just ain't high luxury, OK? No one wants a long car ride with people who aren't in their immediate family. Get over it.

What you Boomers don't realize is that these extended family trips are something we are willing to tolerate for the sake of grandparent/grandkid and cousin relationships, they aren't some amazing, luxurious vacation opportunity we wouldn't otherwise have. We pay our own way, but if my ILs or parents wanted some "destination" I wasn't on board with, yeah, you can pay for the pleasure of my family's company; we wouldn't be going to Bethany otherwise. Ick.

Why would anyone get a 3rd row vehicle with only 1 kid? Rent a small car and say yours is in the shop.

OP, you are always entitled to a preference. Any preference. If it's so important to you, no real good reason DH can't honor it. ILs do not get a vote. Remember that ~ it was said on a recent thread and very useful: ILs do not get a vote.

They may have an opinion but they don't get a vote.

The "free vacation" poster has arrived.
It's not "Free" if you don't want it in the first place. Geez.

Are they old? Is there a reason to worry about their driving? At 60 - 70 driving 8hrs may not be reasonable. Hope they break-up the trip with an overnight.

That situation sucks but I vote earbuds.

They shouldn't expect to ride w/ you. They shouldn't even ask. If they are not comfortable w/ driving that far on their own, then your husband can drive them and you drive yourself and your kid separately. 5 people is a lot to be in 1 vehicle for 8 hrs. And you will want to have 2 cars once you get there.

Just pack really inefficiently so you can’t possibly fit more than you, DH, and the kid.

You can’t think of a single reason?

Adults can't fit in any of the 3rd rows. They are so small. Just say there's not enough room which there won't be once you include all the luggage.

I would not drive that far with my in laws.
I’m with you OP but let DH tell them.

These aren't rich people problems. The wealthy don't bum rides in cramped automobiles or drive 8 hours when they can fly in 2 and rent a car. People who consider these ideas and then actually do them don't have a lot of choices or financial freedom to make better choices.

I had a Honda Pilot with one kid. We had 2 dogs so generally liked the larger cargo area.
3rd row came in handy for carpooling though when the time came.
