Examples of top programs in low ranked schools?

University of New Haven, West Virginia University and CUNY - John Jay College have some of the top/well-established criminal justice-forensic undergrad programs in the country and would fit that bill

yea, this one surprised me. DC is interested in forensics science. Pay seems low, though, but I guess if you work for the govt, you'd get a decent pension and benefits.

Yes. Before UMD was so high up the list, the journalism program was top 10 in the country.

Syracuse U gets scoffed at here, but their Maxwell and Newhouse schools are well regarded and acceptance rates do not seem to be high for those schools.

Overall, rankings don't matter. They can be so easily gamed with schools not counting the stats of spring admits or online admits or admits who can only take classes after 3 pm...With all the schools gaming the system, I'm not sure what the rankings mean anymore.

Rankings are, perhaps, a reflection of a brand's strength. The schools with strong brands are considered "good."

Often this happens when you have a professor who is a genius in the field decide to found a department.
