Which is the biggest party school - Tech, JMU, or UVA?

VA Tech don’t know enough about it. Only kids I know there don’t go out and don’t find it very social but I doubt they are the consensus.

Tech is extremely social and there are lots of parties. Don’t know if I would place it as top of the three though.

+1
I have a student there who has a very active social life - and who also studies very hard at a demanding major. Schools can be both fun and academically challenging.

You sound idiotic. Plenty of smart, driven kids at JMU. Once again, you can party AND work hard. The two are not mutually exclusive. And "top state colleges" are plenty party heavy. As are STEM majors.

Who would want to attend a school where there is no social life? How utterly boring.

UVA no 1. A lot of smart kids finally getting the freedom to be cool and free range

Social life does not need to include alcohol.

This is so not accurate anymore, can you stop perpetuating? No they don’t “dress” for football games and no the girls don’t wear Lily Pulitzer and pearls.

But do they still have the fourth-year fifth?

Lots of coke at Tech in the late 90s as well.

Big Greek life scene, bar scene... so to the PP who says its not a social school, wrong lol.

Huh? I graduated from Tech in 94 and never saw coke there.

+1.

VT is more flexible about admissions, especially for 1st gen to college, but VT also actively fails students out (particularly in engineering). So VT has parties as any college will, but the heavy party-goers are more likely to fail out after a year or two while the academic students will not fail. out. Colleagues who graduated from VT in Engineering all say they were told by VT officials during their 1st week that 25% of Freshmen Eng students would be gone for academic reasons by start of Sophomore year.

UVa is more rigid at admissions time, but doesn’t really try to fail people out. UVa also has a huge frat/sorority social scene, but for parties JMU might be the top public university in the entire Commonwealth…

There were very few party-heavy STEM majors at my university. Workload was too high for most students to get decent grades and alsomparty in a heavy way. Other places might be different.

94 is not late 90s. Tons of coke in the Greek scene in 98/99.

They’re all pretty social.

Kids at both Tech and JMU who don’t drink but whose friends do. Pretty similar level of partying. Lots of it.
And toured UVA this spring on a Saturday morning (spring game). Parties were on by noon. And looked fun, bands, etc.

That is sad news, another old guard institution gone over to the dark side.
